Ford Lakester Zipper Bobtail . Not your run of the mill T Bucket starter kit. This agile little Zipper handles beautifully with sports car like performance in the curves. The engine is a Chevrolet 350 CID V8 built to ZZ430 specifications by Billings Chevrolet, modified to produce about 450 horsepower, yet dialed in to purr easily on the street. Backed by a GM 700R4 automatic overdrive transmission, it cruises at 1900 rpm at freeway speed. The mill is very strong with, of course, a four bolt main block, forged steel crankshaft, forged connecting rods, Fast Burn aluminum heads, Vortec dual plane aluminum Intake manifold, roller rockers, and aluminum water pump. Dyno Doug of FBR Racing in Milpitas worked his magic with an Elgin cam, bigger valves, new guides, rocker studs, timing-chain and two-piece timing-covers so that the camshaft can be changed without pulling the whole cover. A big Holley 770 CFM Street Avenger Carburetor supplies plenty of air and go juice and big exhaust pipes with Spin-Tech mufflers make beautiful music when this beast exhales exhaust. The cooling is provided by an ample aluminum radiator aided by a thermostatically-operated electric fan. Aft, a chrome plated Winters Quick-Change rear end with 3:38:1 gears gets the power to the ground. The Zipper has custom fabricated steel tube frame with three cross members and a K-member combination for a solid transmission mount. The hand laid fiberglass body is steel reinforced and has a handmade dashboard with Classic instruments, and a beautiful lipstick red leather interior, handcrafted by legendary Howdy Ledbetter, provides eye popping contrast to the Goldenrod Yellow exterior finish. A Ford Model A grille and polished aluminum 11 gallon Moon gas tank make this hot rod a nostalgic glimpse of the past. Big Wilwood disk brakes with 12 inch rotors up front and Corvette inboard disk brakes rear ensure smooth, safe, and quick stops. It has semi-elliptical springs with friction shocks front and rear with proprietary control arms, trailing arms, uprights, half-shaft, and brackets by Zipper Motors.
