Details: 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Newmarket Convertible

Chassis: S253KR

This 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom I was manufactured at the Rolls-Royce of America facility in the Massachusetts town of the same name. It was bodied by Brewster who made about 67 Newmarket bodies for the Springfield cars.

Delivered in late 1929, Rolls-Royce Phantom I, chassis number S253KR, a Newmarket convertible by Brewster, was originally owned by Kenneth Guiterman from Lawrence, Long Island NY, who had also owned two other Springfield Rolls-Royce cars, chassis numbers 319LF and S181RP.

It was sold to a relative of the present Mednick family owners in 1947 and thus the car has now been owned by just two families.

The original engine number is 20559 and the body number is 5614.

The car is unusual in that the records show that it was originally fitted with this body as opposed to many Newmarkets that were fitted later in the life of the car. The same style was also chosen by Henry Goldman of Goldman Sachs and Tommy Manville, with fourteen Rolls-Royces, amongst many notable owners.

It is structurally sound and runs well with a new cylinder head recently fitted. The maroon paint is older. A considerable part of the car has the original fabrics. It comes with a period trunk, special spot light, side mounted spare, correct twin bladed bumpers, cone headlamps, full set of instruments and original running boards.

Ready to use with a light restoration.

Elegant and beautifully proportioned, with this style frequently invited to major concours.

40-50 bhp, 468 cu. in. overhead-valve inline six-cylinder engine, three-speed manual transmission, solid front axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, live rear axle with cantilever leaf-spring platform suspension, and four-wheel servo-assisted brakes. Wheelbase: 146.5 in.
