Ford Hiboy Roadster. Out of the mainstream -- that is always what hot rodding has been about. Individual creativity. Design unbridled by contemporary trends. Performance first -- everything else next. If you have the notion that all you gotta do is own a hot rod to be cool, then go look for another car. Anybody can own a Rod-In-A-Box. Just go to your local PRO shop, give em about $35K and have em stitch one together for you. Six months or a year later, you will have a hot rod that is unique -- just like all the rest of them. On the other hand, if DRIVING a hot rod is your criteria for coolness, you are looking at one of the very finest examples of an early period sprint car inspired ride. This roadster is rolling artwork in classic hot rod style. This is the kind of car that turns back the calendar 50 years and really makes you feel free. Free of convention. Free of comparison. Free of aluminum billet. Free of the giant alloy wheels that would only look right on a stagecoach or Conestoga wagon. The Retro design of this roadster exhibits the look, attitude, and the essential components of the rods built in the 50s. But, it is a 21st century car. It has modern features that ensure reliability, comfort and safety. The small block Chevy ZZ4 has been given a dose of steroids with a very lumpy roller cam and triple two barrel carburetor setup between custom made chrome plated aluminum deep finned valve covers and lots more chrome - not billet, accessories. Rated at north of 420 horsepower, this car literally rattles windows and makes the ground shake. The power plant turns a fortified TH350 transmission and 8 inch Ford rear end. The dropped chromoly front straight axle is of sprint car design with polished aluminum spindles, and JFZ brake calipers and 12 inch drilled rotors at all four wheels take care of stopping this hot rod. The rear suspension features torsion bars, fully adjustable lever action shocks and Panhard rod. A custom machined steering column with a quick release Billet Specialties steering wheel and Vega steering box. Riding with attitude, the car has CMS wheel rims on Weld Racing genuine sprint car 6 pin drive centers with knock offs. New radial tires, of course. Glossy, glossy Cranberry Pearl paint is highlighted with subtle pinstriping. The nicely detailed leather interior is fresh and new with charcoal seats piped in a color complementing the exterior, and the trunk is upholstered to match the cabin. A retractable Sid Chavers Bop Top folds nicely behind the seat. The roadster has a 3 piece Rootlieb tilt-forward hood, and an under-dash AM/FM/CD unit puts out the tunes as you cruise in one of the nicest roadsters anywhere you go. A custom dash full of AutoMeter Pro Comp gauges show the vital statistics. Fly into Las Vegas and drive this car anywhere without the slightest concern. It is not a trailer queen. There are lots of cars you can haul around to shows to collect trophies, but you will have a lot more fun driving this car if you are a real hot rodder. You never have to apologize for being cool. |
