Lets go back .....Waaayyy back !!!! Past the old schooland#44; all the way to ancient school... We are talking Henry Ford school....... This is soo long ago that we ( most of us ) have to study History to make any sense of all of this ....It is 1934 and just 2 years ago Henry Ford debuted his revolutionary V8...... Holy Cow ..... That V8 produced a whopping 60 horse power!!!!!!! OMG ... Slow down Henry thats too fast.....!!!! Henry had no Idea that 2 decades later the Street Rodders of America would embrace the Flathead V8 and push it to its limits everyday producing Horsepower in the 250 to 275 range...... Whoops !!!....... back to 1934 ...Henry believed that there was a solid demand for an extended body (wagon) that would seat more folks and provide space for trunks ..and such that they would travel with .... ( folks in those days did not know what traveling lite even meant).. Henry Ford was also smart enough not to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a small but significant segment of the market.....so he did what any good businessman would doand#44; he had a lengthened chassis that could be used for the purpose...Henry had his own old growth hardwood forest in Iron Mountain that he could tap for materials......Hence the WOODY . Henry contacted a company already in businessand#44; the Mengel Body Co. and left all of the meticulous woodwork to them... Mengels work and talent is completely obvious when you see the incredible woodworking that went into these Wooden Wagons of days gone by.... This particular car is the product of a 5 year restoration by the Woody Garage in Fullerton Ca... This Woodie is finished with black fenders and Coach Maroon cowl and hood... I would never presume to tell you that this Woodie is a perfect example of this vintage... but if it isnt perfect It is damn close !!!!! |
