Beginning in 1936, Chevrolet embarked on a sales streak during which it outsold Ford automobiles every year until 1956. Dubbed the Great Race, Chevrolet outsold Ford every year during that twenty year period and this restored 1936 Chevrolet Master Deluxe is a shining example of why Chevrolet would come to dominate the sales race between Ford and all other U.S. automakers for so long. Powered by the venerable cast-iron wonder inline six, the 207 cubic inch engine produces 79 horsepower and is mated to a three-speed manual transmission. According to the cowl tag, this 1936 Master Deluxe 5-window coupe was built at Chevroletandrsquo;s Oakland Assembly plant, and the engine block stamping confirms a build date of May 25th, 1936. Originally painted frosty green with a tan mohair interior, the car has been repainted with a two tone beige and burnt sienna Art Deco motif, while inside the interior, the dashboard and window frames have been painted dark sienna, and the seat, door panels, parcel shelf and trunk have been redone in caramel velour. Additionally, the headliner has been redone in dark brown suede, and the carpet is brown squareweave wool that has been expertly trimmed and installed. Overall, the color scheme on this 1936 coupe, while not original, is superbly and tastefully done and the seat upholstery is comfortable and plush. Other interior features include original gauges, original sill plates, and an original radio and under dash heater, while an aftermarket temperature gauge has been added along with banjo-style steering that looks right at home in this andrsquo;36 coupe. The car rides on a set of color matched wheels that are mounted on B.F. Goodrich Silvertown 5.50-17 wide whitewall tires, while out back a color-matched spare tire holder contains an identical spare wheel mounted with an original Goodyear Marathon 5.25/5.50-17 tire. Under the hood, the engine bay retains its stock appearance and is extremely clean and a set of accessory hood prop rods have been added along with a battery kill switch located underneath the passenger running board. Other exterior features include original Chevrolet Tiltray headlamps that are in excellent condition, a set of KD Lamp Co. #850 amber fog lights, as well as a set of restored 1936 California Year of Manufacture plates that are currently registered to the car. This 1936 Chevrolet Master Deluxe coupe is a true jewel and would be an awesome addition to any car collection as a wonderful example of a prewar Chevy automobile. Restored from top to bottom, it needs nothing but a new owner to enjoy it.
