Purists might cringe at the mixed DNA on this radical 1951 Ford custom convertibleand#44; but this is truly the way they did it in the old school: if it was cooland#44; there was a place for it on the car. As a resultand#44; it neatly blends shapesand#44; trimand#44; and designs from other makes and modelsand#44; creating an extremely attractive custom that will attract attention simply because someone knew how to do it right. The list of modifications is extensiveand#44; but underneath theres a really cleanand#44; solid 1951 Ford ragtop. Of courseand#44; its been sectioned to sit low like thatand#44; the hood and door handles have been shavedand#44; the headlights frenchedand#44; and all the other custom tricks that have been popular for decades. The side trim is from a 1959 Pontiacand#44; the fender portholes are Buickand#44; and the front bumper is a 55 Chevy piece. Once the layout was confirmedand#44; they tore it down and spent months getting the sheetmetal into shapeand#44; then covering it with custom powder blue pearl paint that was just redone about three years ago and looks magnificent. Contrasting white pearl highlights the aforementioned Pontiac trimand#44; as well as the hood scoop that looks right on the vintage Ford hood. A simplified front grilleand#44; flush-fitting fender skirtsand#44; and 59 Cadillac taillights are other traditional custom tricks that are employed to great effect hereand#44; and the net result is a car that looks biggerand#44; sleekerand#44; and far more impressive than any stock Ford youve ever seen. Wow! They didnt hold back insideand#44; eitherand#44; where theres a fully custom color-matched interior. Bucket seats flank a custom center console and the door panels wear matching button-tufted upholstery thats period-correct. The steering wheel is a modern billet piece that looks vaguely like a 57 Chevys wheeland#44; and a complete 53 Olds dash with a quartet of auxiliary gauges low in the console. All the usual upgrades are hereand#44; including Vintage Air A/Cand#44; power windowsand#44; a tilt columnand#44; and a powerful AM/FM/CD stereo system hidden in the glove box. The top has obviously been choppedand#44; but this car is a genuine rarity in the custom worldand#44; as it has a complete folding convertible top thats fully functional and includes a custom white vinyl boot. Theres more button-tufted upholstery in the fully finished trunkand#44; which also carries the CD changer and a full-sized spare. A Chevy 350 provides motive forceand#44; and wears enough chrome to look right under the hood of this amazing custom creation. Its also plenty powerful thanks to an Edelbrock intake and carburetorand#44; MSD ignition systemand#44; and a snarky dual exhaust system with glasspack-style mufflers. A big polished aluminum radiator manages the heat and a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission swaps the gears. Power steering and brakes were added along with air shocks out back to fine-tune the ride height. The Fords beefy frame is more than up to the rigors of cruising with this newfound horsepower and thanks to careful component selectionand#44; it rides and handles like a modern carand#44; not a 60-year-old antique. Genuine chrome wire wheels and flashy wide whitewall radials complete the 1950s custom look and ride superbly. This is a knock-your-socks-off custom where you can examine it for days and still not see every trick that went into the build. Surely the star of any showand#44; this Ford ragtop shows you how to do customs right. Call today! |
