Details: Its easy to understand why they built this handsome 1952 MG TD replica: it looks great! Originals were frequently neglected and abusedand#44; never mind their legendary finicky natureand#44; so it was probably a smart idea to recreate the look in fiberglass and put reliable running gear underneath. Traditional British fun without the downsideand#44; what could be better?

This cream white TD has the right lookand#44; from the flowing fenders to the cut-down doors to the rear-mounted spare tireand#44; its going to fool a lot of people. Unlike a lot of replicasand#44; this one nails the correct proportions and doesnt have that home-made look. Insteadand#44; its nicely finished and very cleanly renderedand#44; with nice paint thats been touched up over the years but still has a nice shine. They nailed the detailsand#44; tooand#44; with a nicely shaped grilleand#44; bucket headlightsand#44; and running lights atop the front fendersand#44; and youll love the raked-back windshield. Simple bumpersand#44; unique British-looking taillightsand#44; and the high-mounted license plate bracket all contribute to the old world vibe this car gives offand#44; which is entirely the point. Its not perfect and its probably ready to be called an antique in its own rightand#44; but for the priceand#44; you probably cant get more 2-seat fun.

The minimalist interior does a good impersonation of the original TD as welland#44; starting with the seat. Its not quite bucketsand#44; and its not quite a benchand#44; instead it splits the lower cushion and puts the parking brake in the middleand#44; which is exactly how the guys at MG were doing itand#44; too. The wooden dashboard is probably far nicer than the MG pieceand#44; and it includes nice-looking vintage gauges that seem suitably Britishand#44; too. The fat wood-rimmed steering wheel and modern steering column might give it awayand#44; but it feels right when youre hustling down the road in this open two-seater. Carpets on the floor are a bit plusher than the British were installing in their open cars but the door panels with their built-in map pockets get the look exactly right. There is no heaterand#44; no radioand#44; but you didnt get those in your MGand#44; eitherand#44; so its perfectly in line with this cars target audience. Overheadand#44; you get a folding convertible top thats in good order with a few older repairsand#44; and quite honestlyand#44; it probably works about as well as the MGs original topand#44; too: for emergency use only!

Theres some speculation about the powerplantand#44; but rest assured its not some VW Beetle concoction. Noand#44; the engine is up front where it belongsand#44; and it sure looks like a 2.3 liter 4-cylinderand#44; which was a popular engine for these types of builds back in the 70s and 80s. Its a tidy installationand#44; with good service access and decent workmanship throughout. Theres an upgraded carburetorand#44; a powerful alternatorand#44; and tidy wiringand#44; all of which suggest this was a car built to driveand#44; and we have to admit that it has a nice little bark when you turn the key and fire it up. Its backed by a proper manual gearboxand#44; while the front suspension offers rack-and-pinion steering and a rather sophisticated multi-link setup lives out back. The exhaust has a grumble that wouldnt be out of place on a real TD and well admit that those fat whitewall radials are a lot grippier than the MGs skinny bias-plys.

Not a show carand#44; not a car for fooling MG puristsand#44; but if you like the look and the open-air experienceand#44; and dont mind having a little extra horsepower and fewer headachesand#44; then this MG TD replica might be a smart choice. Call today!
