Americans had found out that small nimble British sports convertibles were great fun to drive compared with mostly larger stateside vehicles. 10,000 MG TCs were produced from September 1945 to November 1949 and these car were exported to the USA even though this model car was only ever built as a right-hand drive.

In 1950 MG combined the TCandrsquo;s drivetrain with a hypoid andndash;geared rear axle, MG Y-type chassis and independent front suspension using coil springs, also from the Y-Type, thereby creating the new TD model. The press reported a striking transformation in the carandrsquo;s ride. A rack and pinion steering was also featured. The TD also featured smaller 15 steel road wheels together with bumpers and over-riders. All weather protection was improved but the car still lacked a fuel gauge. The 15 gallon (imperial) fuel tank gave the car a 300 mile range without the need to re-fuel. The TD series ended in 1953 with nearly 30,000 produced of which 23,488 were exported to the US.

The car offered here is unusual because of its excellent condition and low mileage, 60,287. The car was taken off the road and restored over a period of the last 5-8 years, starting with a body off chassis by a well known and highly regarded marque specialist in Connecticut, where the car has resided for the past years.

The frame was stripped and refurbished while the engine was rebuilt. New valves were fitted and the compression raised to take advantage of newer fuel blends. Aditionally, the carburetors were replaced during the engine build. The gearbox was rebuilt but needed no special work. After remounting the body to the frame the car was completely resprayed to a very high standard in Cream with Brown fenders, a stunning color combination. The interior was completely retrimmed using high quality leather for the seats. A new convertible top and all new side curtains were custom made, again to a very high standard of finish.

After this complete rebuild the car was taken to several shows where it garnered much praise for the quality of the work performed in restoration. As a part of the show process the car comes with an extra set of five new silver wheels and tires plus a chromed radiator shell to changes the overall vehicle look. This car is now truly ready to go for some spirited grand touring or to the local car show circuit. Whichever is chosen, it would be hard to find a better example of this well loved design and it is sure to please its new owner and garner other awards. Offered at a very fair price of $35K.
