| Details: | Introduced in 1950, the MG TD Midget combined the drive train of its predecessor, the TC, and the chassis and suspension from the MG Y-Type. Produced from 1950 to 1953, the TD variants featured a 1.3L inline 4-cylinder engine that produced 54 horsepower and 64 ft. lbs. of torque and was mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. This numbers-matching 1952 MG TD is a left hand drive North American Export model and was built in January of 1952, making it an early production model. Restored at one point in its life, this barn find andrsquo;52 MG has been repainted British Racing Green and the interior has been redone in white vinyl with brown carpet and white vinyl top. Inside the interior, the dash features an original Moto-Lita wood steering wheel, gauges for oil pressure and charging amperage, as well as a speedometer and tachometer with a clock inset at the bottom. A fuel warning light in the dash notifies drivers when there are less than three gallons of fuel remaining in the tank. As a lightweight roadster, this TD has little in the way of unneeded accessories, and features windshield wipers, turn signals, and headlights and stoplights, and rides on a set of original steel wheels with MG-crest hubcaps with a matching spare mounted on the rear. It is currently registered with a set of original 1951 California license plates with matching 1952 tabs, which add a nice vintage touch considering their relative scarcity. As just 1 of 10,838 built in 1952 and only 29,614 built from 1949 to 1953, today this MG TD Midget is a fairly rare piece of British motoring history and a fun and sporty car to drive. Although it runs, drives, and stops fine, it is a barn find and does need work to get it back into tip top shape. However, with that accomplished, this little TD Midget would be right at home on a scenic weekend drive along the sunny California coast with the top down. |
