ENGINE A No compression test was performed. Engine block number is XPAG/TF/34491. The engine installed is not the one that came with the car. It is a late TF engine, with the later style oil pump. It is of the same style, as the original engine. The cylinder head casting number of 22952 is not correct for this year car, but works fine, with a banana hole head gasket. It is a short reach head, requiring the 1/2 reach spark plugs. Engine has the 6 quart oil pan installed. Autolite Spark Plugs are installed; NGK B6HS plugs are recommended. Camshaft installed is a 0.012 clearance camshaft, for valve setting.EXHAUST AA No problems found. A mild steel exhaust system has been installed, as per original. FUEL SYSTEM B Car has a single S.U. Fuel pump, mounted on the firewall. Carburetors are 1 1/4 S.U. Correct for this car. Original air cleaner manifold and oil bath air cleaner are installed. IGNITION EQUIPMENT C Car presently has Kettering points system installed. Can be upgraded to Pertronix electronic ignition. Distributor rotation is counterclockwise. Firing order is 1-3-4-2. Lucas Q coil installed. COOLING SYSTEM D All water hoses looked to be in good condition. No water leaks were found. Checked coolant, and was rust free. Radiator core is a 4 pass inline core, for increased cooling. Fan is the 2 piece stamped steel blades, original for the car. You can upgrade to a 7 Blade plastic fan, used on MGB. Greatly improves air flow at low speed. FLYWHEEL AND CLUTCH E Tested OK. Car originally equipped with a rod operated clutch, correct for later build cars. GEARBOX F Tested OK. Original MOWOG 4 speed transmission. Has 8 clutch installed; correct for model. PROPELLER SHAFT G Original drive shaft for MG TD/TF installed. No problems seen. REAR AXLE H Rear end probably has the original 5.125:1 gears, as originally fitted to the MG TD/TF differential housing. The rear end ratio can be up-rated to 4.3:1 ratio, as found in the MGA. REAR ROAD SPRINGS I No problems found. -1- STEERING GEAR J The steering rack boots appeared to be OK. Use 90W gear oil in the steering rack. Steering wheel is a Moto-Lita aluminum frame with wood trim wheel. Nice accessory piece. Center piece has the MG logo. FRONT SUSPENSION K Front A-arm bushings have been replaced, with urethane or rubber bushings. HYDRAULIC DAMPERS L Performed a bounce test on the car. All shocks found to be in working order, and dampened oscillation very quickly. Girling hydraulic dampers installed in the front; Armstrong hydraulic dampers in the rear. BRAKING SYSTEM M Brake system requires use of either Castrol GT/LMA brake fluid, or silicone brake fluid. (Castrol GT/LMA installed). No fluid leaks observed. Recent brake work has been done on this car. Tested brakes, perfect stopping power. Parking brake holds car. Parking brake is set by pressing on the button, as you pull up the parking brake handle. To release, pull up the handle, without pressing on the button. Occasionally, check the adjusters for the front (2 per wheel) and rear (1 per wheel) brakes. Tighten until cannot tighten any more, then back off one click. Recent brake work performed on the car, with all cylinders replaced. ELECTRICS N The battery is a lead/acid battery. Wiring is PVC coated wires, with either electrical tape, or spiral wrap cover. Loom looks to be in very good to excellent condition. Horns are installed. Wiper motor is working. Wiper arm collet at wiper motor shaft, needs to be tightened. Car does have turn signals installed. Under the dash, near the shift lever, is a vacuum operated switch, that operates the turn signals. Original turn signal switch was a vacuum operated self-cancelling switch, which would allow for the turn signals to operate for 8 seconds before canceling. Generator is
