Details: 1954 was a big year for the Buick Special, receiving an all new chassis and body as well as the new Nailhead V8 engine, which replaced the old Fireball straight eight. Produced in 1954 and 1955 only, Buickandrsquo;s new 264 cubic inch Nailhead V8 engine produced 240 ft. lbs of torque and 150 horsepower, 25 horsepower more than its predecessor. Although by itself that might sound rather unimpressive, once you take into account that the new Nailhead V8 was only 0.7 cubic inches bigger than the old Fireball straight eight, then the scope and success of the redesign becomes evident. In fact, the new Specials were so popular they outsold all other Buick offerings that year, with 190,884 sold, 72,254 more than the second place Super. This 1954 Buick Special is equipped with a rebuilt 264ci Nailhead engine mated to a Twin Turbine Dynaflow automatic transmission. This Buick Special has undergone a recent restoration during which the exterior was repainted, the engine was rebuilt, and the bumpers and grille were rechromed. Additionally, the underbody and engine compartment have been recently detailed and show wonderfully and the engine itself looks like it just came off the showroom floor. The Special features a jet black exterior over gray and red interior which shows excellently and makes for a lovely color combination. Inside the cockpit all the gauges function and the original Sonomatic radio still resides in the dash along with the clock. The Special rides on Goodyear Invicta GL 225/75R15 tires mounted on stock wheels finished with Moon-style hubcaps, and the car also comes with a set of four original Buick Special hubcaps. Other exterior features include dual side exhausts which produce a nice growl from the healthy 264 Nailhead V8, and coupled with the Moon hubcaps, give the Buick a vintage Bonneville racer look and feel. The Buick also comes with its original 1954 ownerandrsquo;s manual as well as documentation proving its original mileage of 100,786 miles. Overall, this mildly hotrodded Buick Special would be a welcome sight at any classic car meet or hot rod show.
