Honestlyand#44; can you really do better than a red and white 1955 Chevy Bel Air convertible? You cant beat the lookand#44; an invisibly upgraded small block Chevy V8 offers plenty of performanceand#44; and there are a lot fewer of these around than youd expect. If you like the 50sand#44; there are few cars more iconic than this. Gypsy Red and India Ivory are quintessential colors on a Bel Air convertibleand#44; and if youre looking for attentionand#44; you wont be able to escape it whenever youre behind the wheel of this car. The paint and bodywork were done two years ago and its simply stunning from any angle; this car will make grown men stop and stare as you motor past. Obviously the work was well doneand#44; and it has a great shine that youll love polishing up on a Saturday afternoon and good panel gaps that suggest that this car has led a good life and there was a lot of time invested in the restoration. The chrome bumpers were refinished during the restoration and all the stainless was removedand#44; straightenedand#44; and polished before being reinstalled and aligned. It is about as far from subtle as youll findand#44; but thats really the pointand#44; isnt it? If you want gorgeousand#44; this Chevrolet delivers in a very big way. The interior is equally flashy and just as well restored. Wide bench seats will accommodate six in a pinchand#44; and the pure 1950s look of the two-tone red and white upholstery will make everyone want a ride. Correct red carpetsand#44; matching floor matsand#44; and new door panels complement the original dash and steering wheeland#44; which are in truly excellent condition for their age. All the gauges are restored as welland#44; and everything works like it shouldand#44; the hallmark of a top-quality restorationand#44; and it shows just 41 miles since the restoration was completedand#44; so its still very fresh. The only notable deviation from stock specs is a digital AM/FM stereo radio in the dashand#44; but it fits neatly enough that few people will actually notice. A convertible top with a crystal clear rear window fits welland#44; but we all know that its for emergencies only anyway. And the trunk is beautifully finished with a correct rubber mat and a matching spare tire and wheel assembly. At first glanceand#44; youd think thats an original 265 cubic inch V8 under the hood. Thanks to the wonders of the small block Chevy V8and#44; its actually a more modern 350and#44; which slips right in without modifications. Dressed in Chevy Orange paintand#44; original-style valve coversand#44; and correct hardwareand#44; it looks quite authentic. An Edelbrock chrome air cleaner 4-barrel carburetor are surely responsible for a nice bounce in performanceand#44; and you could install an original air cleaner and make it totally invisible. Of noteand#44; theres a modern 12-volt alternator in place of the original generator and a great-sounding dual exhaust system with stock-style mufflers for a 1950s sound. An automatic transmission means that this car is always ready to go and front disc brakes with power assist have been added for safety. Painted steel wheels with beautiful factory hubcaps are wearing 205/75/15 wide whitewall radials that ride and handle great. A beautifuland#44; high-quality car that neatly preserves the original look and feel while adding a few upgrades that make it a pleasure to drive.
