Details: A Rare Findandmdash;a nicely-restored 1955 Packard Caribbean

Only 500 of these Caribbean convertibles were made in 1955, and they were revolutionary cars for several important reasons:

  • They had the all-new Packard 352 cid overhead valve V-8 powerplant;
  • They used the new Twin Ultramatic automatic transmission;
  • They had a unique tri-tone color exterior and matching interior;
  • They used the longitudinal torsion bars for the suspension; and
  • Wire wheels were used instead of hubcaps.

They donandrsquo;t get any Nicer!

  • Paint and Chrome

The Rose, Black and White tri-tone paint is in excellent condition. The paint gleams and shows off the carandrsquo;s great lines.

All of the chrome is in very good condition, giving a like-new appearance to this Caribbean.

The engine compartment is nicely detailed.

The body and underside of the car appears free of any structural rust, the underside is representative of the carandrsquo;s mileage.

  • Interior

The seat upholstery appears original but is in very good condition. The door panels and carpeting are in very nice condition as well.

The convertible top was replaced about 6 years ago and apart from some minor shrinkage, both it and the rear window are in very good conditionandmdash;having never seen rain.

  • Engine

The 352 overhead valve V-8 engine has two 4-barrel carburetors and was rated as producing 275 hp. It starts right up and idles correctly while waiting to be shifted into gear. When driving, the engine provides abundant power for cruising at freeway speeds or passing on secondary roads.

  • Transmission

The automatic transmission shifts properly and smoothly as one would expect in the last of the great Packards.

  • Tires, Brakes, Luxury and Monitoring Systems

The Coker Classic 225/75R15 radial whitewall tires are mounted on real wire wheels, along with a like-new spare also mounted on a wire wheel.

The power brakes work properly and smoothly with disc brakes up front and bring the car to a rapid and safe stop.

This car also has a power seat, power windows, power steering, and working radio. The clock, however, appears to be stuck in 1955.

All of the engine/systems monitoring gauges work properly. Similarly, the lights (other than license and dash), horn, and turn signals all work as does the speedometer. The wipers are consistent with a car that probably hasnandrsquo;t seen rain in a generationandmdash;they donandrsquo;t work. The mileage on the working odometer is 62,064 which the Virginia title lists as actual.

A Caribbean that Shows why Packards were known as Americaandrsquo;s Greatest Luxury cars!!

One would have to look far and wide to find a nicer example of the 1955 Caribbean. Whether at a car show, dinner at a special restaurant or a night out for ice cream, you can be assured that this car will be noticed and admired by everyone who sees it.

As one of only 500 original cars, our Caribbean represents not just a great driving experience but a sound investment as well. Apart from the investment value of this car, it is hard to put a price on the feeling of enjoyment when other drivers and pedestrians wave and give you a thumbs up.
