In 1954 Jaguar announced the successor to its very popular XK 120. The new car featured improved interior space, better brakes , rack and pinion steering and increased suspension travel with improved telescopic dampers instead of the old fashioned lever style dampers. The car was sold as a 1955 model and this lasted for a two year run. Visually the car was similar to the XK 120 but included substantial front and rear bumpers with overriders and flashing turn signals. The divided front windshield still remained but a broad chrome trim was added to the center of the hood and to the rear trunk lid. The engine and dash were moved forward to give drivers three extra inches of leg room. The XK new 140 was powered by the XK engine from the XK 120 with added Special Equipment options which raised the power to 190HP. The C type cylinder head was a further option which raised the output to 210 BHP. Most US cars featured wire wheels and dual exhausts as part of the upgrade program.

The car offered sports all the available options including the SE package and the C type head. In addition, a big improvement for highway driving was the addition of a five speed manual gearbox which gives comfortable cruising at highway speeds.

The car is finished in Black paint with a newly refinished interior with red leather seats. The wire wheels have been replaced and new hubs fitted. The vehicle retains its original Heritage Certificate and has had electric cooling fans added. A black convertible top is stowed behind the seats with matching side curtains.
