Details: Produced from 1955 to 1959, Chevroletandrsquo;s new Task-Force trucks replaced the older Advance Design models built from 1947 to 1955 and although these new Task Force trucks were produced for a relatively short period of time compared to the models that preceded them and the C/K series that came after, they have nonetheless remained a popular truck for collectors and hot-rodders alike. Beginning in 1958, Chevrolet rebranded their light duty trucks with the Apache moniker and downplayed their original numerical designations. This 1958 Chevrolet Apache Stepside pickup is an original big window truck that has undergone a complete frame-off restoration during which it was mildly but tastefully modified. Originally powered by the 283ci V8 that came standard for light trucks in 1958, the Apache is now powered by a small block 350 mated to a Muncie M21 close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission. Under the hood the engine has been slightly upgraded with Edelbrock valve covers and breathers, while a chrome alternator has been added in place of a generator for reliability. Other under hood upgrades include a new radiator, chrome fan shroud, and a chrome air cleaner. Inside the cab, the truck has been upgraded with a Dakota Digital dash system that contains digital readouts for voltage, fuel level, water temperature, and oil pressure, along with a digital speedometer, tachometer, and odometer. Other interior upgrades include an aftermarket Pioneer stereo with multiple speakers, along with a modern bench seat with black leather upholstery and seatbelts for added safety. Out back, the bed features a set of restored wooden slats which are protected by a custom fiberglass locking tonneau cover. Originally painted Oriental Green, the Apache has been completely repainted black from top to bottom and shows excellently while the hood and side emblems have been expertly shaved. Breaking up the blackout scheme on the Apache are a set of silver Ultra 5-spoke mag wheels wrapped in a set of staggered Hercules HP-4000 tires, with 265/50R15andrsquo;s up front and 255/70R15andrsquo;s in back, which give the truck a nice stance. Interestingly, according to the VIN tag this Apache was built at Chevroletandrsquo;s Van Nuys Assembly in Los Angeles, and it even retains its original 1970andrsquo;s California blue and yellow license plate, likely making it an original California truck for its entire life and maybe even a southern California resident at that. Overall, this 1958 Apache is honest and shows extremely well and while the upgrades itandrsquo;s received enhance the truck, they donandrsquo;t put it over the top. Itandrsquo;s a great running and driving truck that can be enjoyed as is or taken to the next level if so desired.
