Puristsand#44; look away nowand#44; but if youre the kind of guy who likes a little edge in his hobby carsand#44; this 1960 Chevrolet Corvette definitely delivers. From the fuelie powerplant to the kickin satin black paint joband#44; this Vette is all about bad attitudes and burning rubber. We warned youand#44; this sucker isnt Buz and Tods shiny rideand#44; its a lot more sinisterand#44; as if period hot-rodders had built a new Corvette. If wed described a satin black Corvette to youand#44; you probably couldnt imagine it looking this cooland#44; and now that youve seen itand#44; you have to admit that it works really well. Its still 100% Corvetteand#44; with no modifications or deletionsand#44; and the work is extremely high quality; this is not some cheap primer job because the guy didnt have the money to do it right. Fit and finish are quite good and the satin black paint has a uniform sheen thats hard to do if youre not familiar with the technique. There was obviously a lot of time invested in the fiberglass bodyworkand#44; mostly because they knew everyone would be checking this car outand#44; and the results speak for themselves. The bright chrome and stainless trim was all polished up before being reinstalledand#44; creating a fantastic contrast that really makes this car look spectacular. Everyone knows what it isand#44; but they all do a double-take when they see it. Too cool. The interior is pretty standard Corvette fareand#44; with reproduction black bucket seat coversand#44; fresh black carpetsand#44; and stylish door panels that really dress things up. That steering wheel closely replicates the originaland#44; although its a bit smaller in diameter and is now wrapped in black leatherand#44; making it a lot easier to grab. Factory instruments monitor the hot small block and it has a correct 6500 RPM redline tachometerand#44; indicative of the high-revving fuel injected motor. There is no radioand#44; just a cool block-off plate with the Chevrolet script on itand#44; which somehow seems fitting for this car. The 4-speed manual is topped by an 8-ball shift knob and youll note it carries OEM-style carpets for a factory touch. Its minimalistand#44; but it does include a removable hardtop (also painted satin black) as well as a folding black vinyl convertible top. The trunk is also correctly finished with a rubber mat. Power is from a 327 cubic inch V8 topped by a Rochester fuel injection system that makes this early Vette a genuine thrill ride today. Its beautifully detailed under the hoodand#44; offering finned valve covers with Corvette scriptand#44; Chevy Orange paintand#44; andand#44; of courseand#44; the fuel injection unit up top. Theres a big aluminum radiator up front to keep it cooland#44; which is smartand#44; yet it still uses the original generator to make electricity. The 4-speed slices through the gears with ease and the rear end is full of punchy gears that make it feel quick around town. The suspension has obviously been lowered a bitand#44; which gives it a nasty rakeand#44; and disc brakes have been added up front to improve stopping performance. A correct reproduction exhaust system sounds right and never gets obnoxiousand#44; and there are recent shocks all around. Standard steel wheels were painted satin black to match the bodyworkand#44; then fitted with simple hubcaps and whitewall radials to complete the period hardcore look. This isnt a Corvette for everyoneand#44; but the guys who appreciate the look are going to love it. If thats youand#44; dont waitand#44; call now! |
