Details: 1961 Ford Thunderbird Firestar For Sale As customs go it is hard to improve on this sleek 1961 Ford Thunderbird coupe built by current HALL OF FAMER JOHN DAGOSTINO. Built in 1997 FIRESTAR sports a 4 inch chopped top, custom hood scoop, modified taillights, shaved doors and trunk and restyled rear fender peaks. Beautifully finished in Candy Red with Gold Scallops accented by a set of chrome wire wheels and wide whitewall tires, a DAgostino trademark . Other touches include extensively dechromed bodywork, European-style headlights set in custom mesh housings. A chrome grille insert with a intricate network of bullet shaped projections, a theme carried out through the rest of the car. The interior including the trunk, all of which has been refreshed a month ago is done in a white pearl vinyl. Following its completion in 1997, Firestar was displayed in the 1997 Sacramento Autorama where it received BEST CANDY PAINT, which was presented by Joe Ballion the inventor of candy colors. It was then shipped to Sweden where it embarked on an extensive European show tour. Upon its return stateside in 2002 Firestar joined the famous Kustoms With a K display at the world-renowned Petersen Automotive Museum. In 2009 it was purchased at the Petersen by its current owners, who with input from J. DAgostino did an extensive restoration of the vehicle. The bullet grille was redone in 304 Stainless Steel with the background powdered coated. The custom mesh housing along with the rest of the applicable pieces on the car were rechromed, the stock 390 engine which along with the car had approximately 65, 000 miles was pulled and gone through, and a new exhaust system was fabricated and installed. The engine was fitted with a polished serpentine belt system, a custom twin electric fan radiator, custom engraved valve covers FIRESTAR, a new Holly carburetor and an electronic ignition system, with new spark plug wires and covers, making it one of the very few DAgostino cars with a finished engine compartment. The air ride system was completely replaced by Ponch The Bag Man and now features a chrome pump, remote controls and new rear springs. The transmission was rebuilt incorporating modern features to improve dependability. It was than shown by the new owners for about 4 years after which they embarked on an even more extensive restoration, which was just finished this April. Again with DAgostinos input the front and rear bumpers were denutted gas cap and backup lights removed and then welded into one piece units. A new sound system, with provisions for an I Pod, was installed hidden below the dash speaker grill and controlled by a remote. VINTAGE AIR Heating and AC was installed with the controls located in the gold anodized waterfall center console. During the AC installation the dashboard was removed and all instrument lights were replaced with LEDS. The remote opening doors and trunk were redone and includes a hidden manual release for the trunk. Side view
