price reduced The American fascination with Porsches took off when importer Max Hoffman brought 15 Special Roadsters to the U.S. in 1954. The spartan construction of the Speedsters meant that the introductory price was only $2,841, and 4,144 of them were sold in the U.S. between 1954 and 1958. The accompanying Cabriolet offered creature comforts to 3,367 more practical buyers.

Erwin Komendaandrsquo;s T5 body style arrived in 1960 and was designated the 356 B. Both the Convertible and Coupe were equipped with 15-inch wheels, heavier and taller bumpers, a revised slope to the hood, and a larger chrome-plated hood handle. The steering wheel and knobs were black plastic, with a mushroom knob for the shifter. The headlights were moved to the top of the fenders, with amber parking lights below them and brake vents below the bumper.

Among Porsche enthusiasts, there is a never ending debate about which model is the ultimate open 356. The Speedster has long been regarded as the most collectible, and does enjoy a certain purity of line that is very attractive, however the later Convertible D and BCabriolet enjoy functional and mechanical updates that make the cars more pleasurable to use in the real world. Thus, enthusiasts wishing to enjoy their cars will be attracted to the 356B Cabriolet, whose low and rakish lines, more functional top, and wind up windows represent the perfect compromise between the unmistakably sporty lines first embodied by the Speedster, and the more civilized refinement of the Cabriolet. Additionally, thanks to the mechanical updates on all 356Bandrsquo;s (including more substantial oil pump, more effective bumpers, improved ZF gearboxes and shift linkages, improved brakes, and stronger connecting rods), the B Roadster is also a superior driving car! Most of the restoration in thefew years.

The car was painted and reupholstered. has gone through the car mechanically, including rebuilding the matching number engine to Super 90 specification. Easily returned to stock if desired.
The car drives exceptionally well, and will be ideal for perspective new owners looking forward to road rally and tour events. The engine, while original, has been upgraded to Super 90 specification so 90 hp vs stock 60. The transmission shifts well and offers a much more robust feel than those fitted to the earlier 356 series cars. Thanks to its very recent brake system rebuild work, the car stops straight and effectively.

Cosmetically speaking, this is an excellent #1/2car. Correct square weave carpets are installed, along with correct black rubber floor mats, as original. AVDO wood rimmed steering wheel has been fitted, while the gauges and other switchgear remains original. This example has a newer canvas soft top in very good condition. The frontal storage area and engine bay are both clean and tidy. Included with the car are select maintenance and ownership records, a 356 spiral bound ownerandrsquo;s manual, a matching spare wheel with tire and the original jack. Drives, runs and stops great! An excellent investment and throughly enjoy driving!!
