1962 Chevrolet Corvette. Purple exterior. Red Interior. One of only 13 built for Tangier Shrine Corvette Patrol. The Tangier Shrine Patrol was formed in March 1957 in Nebraska. It was composed of Omaha, Nebraska lawyers, bankers and business men who felt that their demonstrations of precise driving would help the case of traffic safety. The group chose the corvette to exhibit their driving skills. The group (11-15 members) purchased a new corvette each year and GM would build all at the same time so they would be identical. In 1962, Bunky Knudsen told the group they could have any GM car color from any GM model available that year. The director chose the 1962 Cadillac, a metallic amethyst and as it happened, white was not an option for the interior in 1962 so the director went with red. Some time during its first three owners, it was painted silver. In 1983, a serviceman in South Carolina purchased it and decided to have a frame of restoration done to bring this beauty back to its original condition. He discovered some of the \ |
