Finalizing in 1962, the Series II 250GT Pininfarina represented Ferrari`s increasing tendency towards production road cars, both to showcase the technology tested in racing, and to provide income to support racing. These cars are elegant, understated, and luxurious, and are available as both open and closed cars. Fitted with the venerable 3-litre V-12, the 250 GT is in many ways the ultimate classic Ferrari, and with generous space for both passengers and luggage, PF`s have always been excellent touring cars. As prices for long and short wheel base California Spyders soar into the multi-millions, Series II 250 Pininfarina Cabriolets (built concurrently alongside the California Spyder) have become the last financially accessible open 250 series Ferrari. Often overlooked for the more aggressive California Spyder, the 250 GT Series II Cabriolet is a wonderful car in its own right, stately, sophisticated, and full of character. With just 200 examples built between 1959 and 1962, these open two-seaters are of very limited production and are highly sought after, and will prove to be excellent investment pieces accordingly. Its road manners are quite possibly its most pleasing attribute. We cannot impress upon interested parties enough how well this example drives. The engine starts instantly. The carburation and ignition systems are in beautiful harmony, and the engine pulls crisply from an idle to redline, producing excellent power. The exhaust is of the correct type, producing a gratifying note. The transmission shifts well with good synchronization, both warm and cold. The clutch is well adjusted with good uptake, and the factory installed overdrive unit works beautifully. The brake pedal is high, effective, and confidence inspiring and when applied, the disc brake stop this 250GT effortlessly. The steering is responsive and suspension particularly tight and cohesive. The water and oil temperature gauges, oil pressure, speedometer, tachometer, and clock are all operational, as is the fuel gauge. This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a lovely example of one of Ferraris most elegant open-air cars. Just 200 examples were built, making them significantly rarer than blue-chip collector Ferraris such as the 275 GTB/4 or the Lusso. Additionally, with more sought after open V-12 models of this era soaring well above $10,000,000, the Series II PF Cabriolet remains an excellent value for open 250 series Ferraris. There are few cars with more comfortable and stylish conveniences with which to melt away the miles. This immaculate PF cab is a matching numbers vehicle making it a very desired collectors item. It is an overdrive example that was delivered in green over tan interior. In 2009, a ground up restoration by world-class renown Fast Cars Ltd. was performed and completed in famous Redondo Beach, California. This Ferrari is one of the most elegant examples ever restored, finished in breathtaking color combination of Griggio Ortello over the ever so loved, traditional Ferrari Tan Leather. It has only been driven less than 600 miles since restoration making this well-cared for example even more desirable to any passionate collector. Excellently restored, this is an exceptional example of its breed. It would not only be an excellent Concours entrant but would also surely perform well on the open road. In the minds of many enthusiasts, nothing can provide a better driving experience than an open-top, front-engine V-12 Ferrari, and this example surely does not disappoint. |
