Details: 1962 Ford Falcon Sports Futura, the first year of availability forthe Futura trim package. Only 17,011 were made in 1962,even fewerfitted withthe formal Thunderbird Roof, amid-year option, so this is a relatively rare car. The VIN decodes as follows: 2 = 1962, R = San Jose, CA assembly plant, 19 = Futura 2-door sedan with Thunderbird roof, and U = 170 CID 6-cylinder engine (known as the Special Six). The data/trim tag decodes as follows: 62C = 2-door sedan with bucket seats, T = sandshell beige (aka honey beige) exterior color, 84 = light beige crush vinyl and pearl beige crush vinyl interior color, 30C = assembled on the 30th day of March 1962, 71 = Los Angeles district sales office, 5 = 3.50 to 1 rear axle ratio, and 3 = 2-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission. The car has been cosmetically and mechanically restored over the years, and presents well as a solid, driver-quality car. What makes this car unique are several upgrades that make the car more driveable. In 2011, the following work was completed by Mustang Restorations of East Dundee, Illinois: installation of rebuilt 200 CID engine and 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, Vintage air conditioning unit, new radiator, and conversion from generator to alternator. As a result of these improvements, the car driveslike a first generation Mustang. Note that the exterior paintwas monotone from the factory, butthe roof has been painted the factory-optional Wimbledon White for a nice 2-tone look. Some of the attached pictures are prior to the repainting of the roof. Other non-original parts installed by the previous owner include velour upholstery, seat belts, anAM/FMradio, and wire-wheel hubcaps (which were optional in 1963). The car may be viewed by appointment.
