Details: | Ford Galaxie 500 . This car is a survivor/barn/warehouse find from Chicago. Galaxie 500 2dr. post, Z code 390-4V 3 speed manual. Odometer shows 23,797 miles and I believe it. Car has a Hurst floor shift conversion done long, long ago. Original engine, has the correct date codes on all the castings as far as I can tell. I pulled the pan and took pictures, it does have the cross bolt bosses cast in the block and the bottom end looks new. C1AE heads, Autolite 4100. Has a set of headers(Dougs?) on it with removable caps for the collectors and a pipe that exits the side of the collector to mate with the rest of the exhaust system. Original Mallory Dual point distributor along with a Judson magneto coil in working order. Has a Sun tach drive on the firewall, a tach mount on the dash but the tach is gone. There are underride traction bars welded on and a set of front springs to jack up the front end. It must have been someones Saturday night street racer from the south side of Chicago back in the mid-60s. The decals alone on the quarter and rear windows of race tracks that no longer exist and road trips to the west coast are worth a look by themselves. I can imagine the car has seen some wins and some losses but has survived in one very solid piece. The car does have scratched paint from sitting in a warehouse but no rust and the lines are straight. Windows work perfectly, glass is clear and crack free. Bumpers are solid with no rust, the chrome isnt perfect but does still look great. Interior is almost perfect, one cut in the headliner. Seats and upholstery have been covered in plastic its whole life. Drivers seat back plastic covering was ripped so I removed it which allows you to see how nice the stitching is. Motorola vibrasonic speaker for the AM radio.I found the car with no trans, trans cross member or driveshaft. Brand new Hays lever style clutch, disc and flywheel package that works well but it is stiff. I found the correct Galaxie 3 speed top loader, a cross member and had a driveshaft made. 9 rear/3:50 open diff. Cleaned out the carb, had the original gas tank lined and replaced the fuel pump and the rubber lines. Went through and replaced the brake master and wheel cylinders but have all the original pieces including the fuel pump( has the autolite fuel filter twist on cap in good shape). Most of the original exhaust is there, I had some mufflers put on the back as the original cans were rotted away. Car runs, drives and stops well. installed the red wheels and tires as driving around on the originals did not seem like a good idea! I have four original 14 body colored wheels with poverty caps. Can take as many more pictures as needed. |
