Blue chip investments dont get much more interesting than a mid-year Corvette. This 1965 roadster carries a great-running small block V8and#44; a 4-speed gearboxand#44; and single-family ownership for the past 40 years. As far as investments goand#44; its hard to beat an investment you can drive. This isnt one of those trailer-queen Vettes that youre afraid to driveand#44; either. Refinished a few years agoand#44; it was switched from its original code F Nassau Blue to bright code U Rally Redand#44; once again proving the old adage that theres nothing quite like a bright red Corvette. The Sting Ray was one of the most influential designs of the decadeand#44; and even forty-five years laterand#44; it remains instantly recognizable and still resonates with hobbyists. This 65 hits the sweet spotand#44; with a nice patina that shows well and looks great for the cars ageand#44; without the hassles that come from trying to maintain a show cars finish. At any Corvette showand#44; you can spot the guys who drive their cars pretty easily: theyre the ones with the giant grins on their facesand#44; and you could join them without worries in this one. Its not perfectand#44; but a perfect Corvette is kind of an oxymoron. Noand#44; Corvette are blue jeans and plain white T-shirtsand#44; and perfect just isnt part of the legend. The body tag says the interior is standardand#44; but the lovely and comfortable black buckets are anything but ordinary. They have a lovely patina and signs of gentle use that make it ever so inviting to slide behind that woodgrained wheel. Of courseand#44; theres no damageand#44; no split seamsand#44; no scuffs on the seating surfacesand#44; so if you want to show itand#44; youll have nothing to be ashamed ofand#44; thats for sure! The gauges are in good shapeand#44; although the original tach is supplanted by a column-mounted unit that was necessary due to the upgrade to an HEI distributor (the original tach is cable-driven). Overhead theres a white convertible top thats in good orderand#44; while the carpets show almost no wear thanks to matching Corvette-logo floor mats protecting them. Theres an original AM radio in the center with its unusual vertical orientationand#44; and theres just nothing cooler than that bright chrome shifter for the 4-speed underneath. This Vette carries a replacement 350 cubic inch V8and#44; which is a neat fit thanks to the ubiquity of the small block Chevy. Its not the cars original engineand#44; of courseand#44; but during the restorationand#44; it was rebuilt and now shows just about 5500 miles. Finished in correct Chevy Orange with a stock-looking air cleaner and finned cast aluminum valve coversand#44; it has a functional look. As I mentionedand#44; theres a modern HEI ignition system and a dual reservoir master cylinder on the power brake systemand#44; which appear to be the lone visible upgrades. The 4-speed shifts with typical Muncie precisionand#44; and the four wheel disc brakes that became standard equipment give this car impressive stopping power. Theres a recent chambered exhaust system with polished tipsand#44; and the chassis is extremely clean. Refreshinglyand#44; this one also carries stock Rally wheels with 205/70/15 whitewall radials. Coming out of long-term ownership where its been with the same family for decadesand#44; this is a beloved car. If youve been dreaming of a C2 Corvette roadsterand#44; this one is a fine choice that will appreciate as you enjoy it. Call today! |
