Blue chip collectables dont get much more interesting than a mid-year Corvette. This 1965 roadster carries a snarling 327and#44; a 4-speed gearboxand#44; and a beautifully restored Nassau Blue body. As far as fun cars goand#44; its hard to beat a mid-year Corvette you can actually drive rather than constantly mother on a show field. This one gets everything right and works best in its natural environment: on the road. This isnt one of those trailer-queen Vettes that youre afraid to drive. Refinished not too long agoand#44; it was refinished in its original code F Nassau Blueand#44; which was by far the most popular color in 1965and#44; yet it still stands out among all the bright red ones. The Sting Ray was one of the most influential designs of the decadeand#44; and even forty-five years laterand#44; it remains instantly recognizable and still resonates with hobbyists and bystanders alike. This 65 hits the sweet spotand#44; with a nice workmanship that shows well and looks great for the cars ageand#44; without the hassles that come from trying to maintain a show cars finish. Neverthelessand#44; if you want to take this one up a notchand#44; you could have a pro give it a buff and itll really knock people out. Just remember that you can spot the guys who drive their cars pretty easily: theyre the ones with the giant grins on their faces. You could join them without worries in this one. The body tag says the interior is code 414and#44; so thats what went back in: attractive blue buckets with a high-quality look thats anything but ordinary. They have a lovely patina and signs of gentle use that make it ever so inviting to slide behind that woodgrained wheel. Of courseand#44; theres no damageand#44; no split seamsand#44; no scuffs on the seating surfacesand#44; so if you want to show itand#44; youll have nothing to be ashamed ofand#44; thats for sure! The gauges were obviously rebuiltand#44; and include a correct tachometer with a 6500 RPM redlineand#44; suggesting that this is an L79 car. Overhead theres a white convertible top thats quite niceand#44; while the carpets show almost no wear thanks to matching floor mats protecting them. Theres a relatively rare telescoping steering columnand#44; an original AM radio in the center with its unusual vertical orientationand#44; and theres nothing cooler than that bright chrome shifter for the 4-speed underneath. This Vette carries one of the nastiest of small blocksand#44; an L79 327/350and#44; under the hood. Its not the cars original engineand#44; but the numbers (casting number 3959512) suggest it was a counter replacement block issued in-periodand#44; so its the next best thing. Rebuilt and finished in correct Chevy Orange with a chrome air cleaner and gorgeous cast aluminum valve coversand#44; it isnt over-restored and doesnt outshine the rest of the car. Insteadand#44; the clever restorer was careful to keep the cars overall look and feel intact while renewing the parts that truly matter. Theres a big Holley underneathand#44; which preserves the engines propensity for high-RPM blastsand#44; as well as a correct Winters intake manifold. The 4-speed shifts with typical Muncie precisionand#44; and the four wheel disc brakes that became standard equipment just a year earlier give this car impressive stopping power. Theres a rumbling exhaust system with polished tipsand#44; and the chassis is extremely clean if not detailed for shows. Refreshinglyand#44; this one also carries Rally wheels instead of fake knock-offsand#44; as well as a set of fresh 205/75/15 whitewall radials. If youve been dreaming of a C2 Corvette roadsterand#44; this one is an exceptionally nice choice that will appreciate as you enjoy it. Call today! |
