Details: 1965 Ford Mustang Packing a snarling 289 Hi-Po under the hood, a race-ready interior, and wearing that searing yellow paint, it aint subtle but sometimes nothing succeeds like excess. Lets start with that outrageous bodywork, which is designed to attract attention everywhere it goes. The Mustang coupes shape is instantly recognizable, even when its painted eyeball-searing yellow. Add in a fiberglass hood with locking pins and a massive scoop, a chin spoiler, and a wing on the rear deck and the mild-mannered Mustang becomes something quite different. Drawing from the racing world, there are details throughout that suggest that this Mustang is more than just pretty, although the workmanship is good throughout. The paint is like nothing that was on the Mustang color chart in 1965, but it sure works on the classic shape, and with some selective shaving of emblems, it takes on a sleek look. Note that the rear panel has been shaved, including the fuel filler cap which now houses a master shut-off switch. The chrome that remains is also quite good, including both bumpers and the factory-style 289 badges on the front fenders. The race ready theme continues inside with matching black and yellow race buckets and 5-point harnesses that grab you and hold you in place no matter what youre doing with the accelerator pedal. Theres also a gorgeous Grant GT wood steering wheel framing the original gauges, along with a big Auto Meter monster tach on the steering column. Down low there are oil pressure and temperature gauges and a factory console with the shifter for the manual valve body C4 automatic so it shifts like a manual without a clutch. An AM/FM/cassette stereo has been stuffed into the original AM radios location and theres still a stock back seat so your friends can come along, too. With the fuel filler being shaved, you wont be surprised to find a fuel cell in the trunk, along with an Optima gel cell over the right rear tire, exactly where it belongs. The 289 under the hood is ready to rock and was put together just 8000 miles ago. An Edelbrock intake and Demon carburetor live under that cool open-element air cleaner, which also wears reproduction 289 decals for a touch of whimsical originality, and theres an Edelbrock cam in the middle of the block that has a great idle and pulls like a freight train. A big radiator keeps it cool, assisted by both mechanical and electric fans and an MSD ignition system lights the fires. Long-tube headers and a custom exhaust system with glasspack-style mufflers and side exits just ahead of the rear wheels add a racy soundtrack, and with 4.11 gears in the 9-inch rear, acceleration is explosive off the line. It offers just the right stance, due in large part to the 16-inch KMC alloys wearing 225/50/16 front and 245/50/16 Firestone radials. With all the nice Mustangs out there, its cool to see one with a bit of swagger in its step. Fast, flashy, and heavily fortified for speed, this one is a lot of fun for not a lot of cash. Call now!
