What could be more fun than a clean 1965 Mustang coupe with a slick silver blue paint joband#44; handsome original interiorand#44; and a sweet-running A-code 289 under the hood? Ultra-clean from top to bottomand#44; this Mustang has been built as an all-around performer that you can be proud to show at the local cruise nights. There really isnt much you can do to an early Mustang to improve its looksand#44; so the fellow who built this one focused on getting it straight instead. The sheetmetal is all original so you know this was never a rusty car. Two-stage urethane creates the shineand#44; and the paint is a refreshing change from all the bright red and black Mustangs you usually see at car shows. It also works really well with the slightly more formal coupe bodyand#44; which helps it keep a low profile. Its got a few signs of use nowand#44; as it was painted a few years agoand#44; but its always a relief to see a mostly stock Mustang and that they resisted the urge to add stripes and scoops and spoilers. This was how they looked in the 60s and there arent many folks who dont love the way these cars look. It also glitters like jewelry with lots of new chromeand#44; including the bumpersand#44; taillight bezelsand#44; and new stainless window trim. And this one comes by that 289 badge on the front fenders honestlyand#44; as its a real-deal A-code V8. The cars white interior is almost entirely originaland#44; which will tell you about how well-preserved the car is overall. The standard bucket seats are still comfortable and the seat covers dont show any major splits or wear. The floor is covered with original-style carpetand#44; and the door panels are in very good shape considering they just celebrated their 50th birthday. A standard color-matched steering wheel is perfect for the 60s vibe of the original pony carand#44; and the original gauges are in good orderand#44; covering the basics. The A/C looks like the same unit you would have received as a dealer-installed option in 1965and#44; fully restored and using R134a refrigerant so it blows ice cold. Entertainment is compliments of a modern AM/FM/cassette stereo system that has been nestled into the original radios spot in the dashand#44; right where its been for decades. The trunk is properly outfitted with a plaid mat and full-sized spare with cover. As I mentionedand#44; power comes from what we believe to be the original A-code 289 cubic inch V8. Chrome dress-up pieces are appropriate and the open-element air cleaner uses a reproduction decal to capture a factory look. The A/C compressor dominates the viewand#44; but its always nice to see a power steering pump hanging on the front of a Mustangs engineand#44; meaning this one is friendly enough to drive every day. Its backed by a C4 3-speed automatic transmission and 8-inch rear end with 3.00 gears insideand#44; so its a very easy cruiser. A newer Flowmaster dual exhaust system gives the 225-horse 289 a great soundtrack and the undercarriage is in great condition. Classic styled steel wheels always look right on early Mustangsand#44; with these wearing fat 215/70/14 BFGoodrich T/A radials. Great Mustangs are still out thereand#44; and many of them are still very reasonably priced. This one has already had a lot of attention and effort lavished upon itand#44; and it shows. With an elegant paint joband#44; that handsome interiorand#44; and a nice-running small block under the hoodand#44; its the kind of fun car that populates most local shows and cruise nights.
