Looking at the photos and the priceand#44; youve already deduced that this is one special 1965 Ford Mustang fastback. And indeed it isand#44; having been professionally built to exacting standards and designed to perform on the track as well as on the show field. This is resto-mod done right. Theres a little bit of GTand#44; a little bit of Shelbyand#44; and a lot of attitude built into this gorgeous Mustang fastback. The body is one of the straightest early Mustangs weve ever seenand#44; and there are obviously a lot of hours tied up in getting it to look this good. Check out the laser-straight crease running back to the C-scoop on the quartersand#44; the sharp peak of the fendersand#44; and the miles-deep finish that only comes from tedious hand labor. The hood is a fiberglass piece that looks a lot like the GT350 pieces Shelby was usingand#44; with a small scoop to feed the carburetor and a set of hood pins for that performance look. The two-stage urethane paint is drop-dead gorgeous and captures the Shelby vibe with modern materialsand#44; and the way it glows in the sunlight will make people stop and stare everywhere you go. A vented front valence is like a Shelby GT350R and the rocker stripes have the right GT350 callouts. Proper badges and emblemsand#44; a smooth billet grilleand#44; and exhaust pipes poking through the rear valence are all part of the performance look. The interior is anchored by a set of custom ProCar seats with matching headrests and some additional bolstering to help hold you in place. Simple black leather upholstery is similar to the original patterns so it keeps a period vibe and the back seat is goneand#44; replaced by a 4-point roll cage and a spare tire mount thats very much like the Shelby R models. The instrument panel is filled with original gaugesand#44; all framed by a new Shelby-style wood-rimmed steering wheeland#44; and a Stewart-Warner tach and oil pressure gauge are mounted up in their own pod above the center of the dash. The shifter shows five forward gears instead of the usual fourand#44; and its perfectly positioned to rip through the gears at full throttle. There is no stereoand#44; but I dont think youre going to miss itand#44; and the trunk is fitted with a correct mat that fits well. Mechanicallyand#44; its still got Mustang roots with a 351 cubic inch V8 topped by a Paxton blower. So its a little modernand#44; but Paxton was building superchargers for Shelby in the 60s and it delivers a big block punch without the weight. Theres a big 4-barrel carburetor inside the box and finned valve covers give it a consistent look thats straight out of the 60s. The 5-speed manual spins a 9-inch rear via a new driveshaftand#44; and theres a new gas tank out back. A custom exhaust system uses an X-pipe to create that LeMans soundtrack and subframe connectors reinforce the Mustangs unibody in a way that you can really feel. 4-wheel disc brakes are probably a good idea when you have more than 500 horsepower on tap and the entire undercarriage remains in good order with no signs of major issues in the past. Custom 18-inch wheels are very much like vintage Halibrands and wear 225/40/18 front and 235/40/18 rear performance radials. One of the most impressive resto-mods weve ever seenand#44; this is the pinnacle of early Mustang performance and comfort. Nothing radicaland#44; just a winning combination executed to a very high standard. Call today! |
