Pontiac really understood how to bring performance and luxury in equal measures. The best way to see it is on this 1965 Pontiac Grand Prix. Its rare color and curvy bodylines are balanced with a bucket seat interior and a large 389 V8. The rear passengers were not neglected either with a fold-down armrest to provide individual comfort. The paneling on the consoleand#44; dashand#44; and factory two-spoke wheel are all terrific pieces that still convey a message of premium luxury today. This nicely presented lumber appearance frames all the gauges and featuresand#44; including the extra-wide speedometerand#44; heat/defrost controlsand#44; and the factory AM/FM stereo. And we know how much youll enjoy grabbing the floor mounted shifter and watching the center-mounted vacuumed gauge dance as you cruise down the highway. The engine bay stays faithful to this cars original image right down to the black air cleaner and turquoise paint on the block. Fans of the GTO know the Pontiac 389 cubic-inch V8and#44; and its a great powerplant to have hereand#44; too. Theres a bit more grand touring weight in the Grand Prix compared to the Goatsand#44; but that isnt a problem for this big powerand#44; four-barrel carb motor. Advertised at 325 horsepowerand#44; it was able to deliver on the Pontiacs performance promise. Then you add in great features like the three-speed automatic transmissionand#44; power brakesand#44; power steeringand#44; and a supple ride. Its this fast moving and luxury cruising attitude that makes the coupe so desirable.
