Details: The 1966 Chevrolet Corvair in range-topping Corsa trim is already a rare classic convertibleand#44; but a lot of little upgrades make it something even more unique.

Original spirit meets the custom classic culture on this Corvair. You see it immediately in the paint. The original Lemonwood was a standout colorand#44; but its nowhere near as bold as yellow you see today. Plusand#44; the body has been given the full custom treatment with the sporty front air damand#44; scoops in the rocker panelsand#44; and a full-length rear spoiler. But even with these custom touchesand#44; the original Corvair shines thought. The design was ahead of its timeand#44; which means you see the future lines for icons like the Camaro in this handsome convertible. The wraparound chrome bumpers shine nicelyand#44; and all the front-end trim is present right down to the cursive Corvair script. This dual idea of Chevy history and updated appearance comes together perfectly on the wheelsand#44; which borrow 15-inch alloys from the final generation of the S-10.

Under the newer black folding electric roof is a refreshed black interior. The bucket seats have a great pattern with ornamentation that adds a little flash to this Corvair. It coordinates nicely with the door panels and dash that are both deep and black with nice bright trim. The same goes for the Corsa-specific steering wheel. Beyond that you get a full gauge package. And the tach on that is particularly handy when combined with the four-speed shifter. If this interior seems more loaded other Corvairs youve seenand#44; thats because this is the top-of-the-line Corsa trim. While the Corvair was a mass-market carand#44; Chevy only produced 3and#44;142 Corsa convertibles in 66and#44; so this is a rare treat.

Pop the rear engine lid to find the 164 cubic-inch aluminum flat six. The Corsa trim is particularly nice here because it includes an upgrade to four single-barrel Rochester carburetors. It gives the motor a 27% power advantage over the standard Monza powerplant. Plusand#44; by maximizing the weight over the rear wheels with the engine and batteryand#44; it has a true traction advantage. Soand#44; maximized for utilityand#44; and only weighing 2and#44;700 poundsand#44; this Corvair Corsa makeslike Chevys Porsche. Later production Corvairs like this 1966 model are desirable because it takes advantage of Chevrolets updates to make them saferand#44; and handle much better. This included revised spring ratesand#44; a fully independent rear suspension modeled after its cousin the Corvetteand#44; larger brakesand#44; and a front anti sway bar.
