Early Mustang fastbacks like this 1966 2+2 remain a bit of an anomalyand#44; often pulling larger prices than their drop-top siblings. Is it the fantastic look? The practicality? The relative rarity? Whatever the reasonand#44; there are a lot of things to like about this Vintage Burgundy fastback. This isnt a car for the puristand#44; but you can find plenty of restored Mustangs any day of the week. What this car offers instead is a classic high-performance look that doesnt go too far and instead offers the traditional look that people have admired from day one. Code X Vintage Burgundy paint is sophisticated and attractive and it is indeed this cars original color. Finish quality is decent all aroundand#44; making this a car youll look forward to driving and wont mind pulling into a favorite cruise night or car showand#44; where its going to attract a lot of attention. Unlike many of its siblingsand#44; this Mustang is refreshingly free of stripes and other decals and despite being a real A-code fastbackand#44; it hasnt been faked up like a GT. Insteadand#44; the clean shape speaks for itself: bright chrome bumpersand#44; a few well-placed emblemsand#44; and correct polished trim all give it a detailed look that is extremely attractive. The attractive interior was restored a few years ago and now has that appealing lived-in look that all Mustangs should have. It was originally all blackand#44; but during the fresheningand#44; it received burgundy seat covers to match the bodyworkand#44; and we like the look. In factand#44; it appears that almost everythingand#44; including the door panelsand#44; and carpets were all replaced and still show welland#44; with heavy-duty floor mats to keep things tidy. Only the dash pad is showing its ageand#44; but fortunatelyand#44; a brand new one is included with the car so thats easy to remedy. The gauges are original with a correct replacement woodgrained trim panel that was standard equipment on non-Pony interior cars. Thats an original AM/FM radio still in the dashand#44; so you know the guy doing the work had his priorities straightand#44; and it remains functional. It also has A/C installed under the dash in the usual fashion and working with R12 refrigerantand#44; so its quite effective. We also love the practicality of the fastbackand#44; with a fold-down rear seat that expands trunk space exponentially. And speaking of the trunk its probably one area where you can add value to an already pretty nice car. No early Mustang feels right with anything but a 289 under the hoodand#44; and this Mustang carries a correct A-code V8. Quick to rev yet surprisingly torqueyand#44; it makes this fastback feel quick without working too hard. Its pretty original under the hoodand#44; but you can see factory-applied Ford Blue engine paint and a lot of new hardware that make it a joy to drive. An open-element air cleaner is a familiar performance touchand#44; but otherwise it appears quite stock. It would surely benefit from a deep cleaning and detailand#44; but none of the dirt gets in the way of how it worksand#44; because its strongand#44; smoothand#44; and very torquey. The 4-speed manual transmission shifts well and makes the car feel quite quick around town and according to the door tagand#44; its got 3.00 gears out backand#44; so highway cruising is a pleasure. 14-inch steel wheels and spinner hubcaps are factory-correct and wear recent whitewall radials for a traditional look. Fastback Mustangs never stick around for very longand#44; and if you want an affordable one that you can drive and showand#44; this is a very good choice. Call today! |
