So it turns out that the devil is a street racer and seems to prefer Chevelles. This astounding 1967 Chevelle SS tribute makes no bones about its take-no-prisoners attitude and if youre a fan of blackand#44; nothing on four wheels has ever worn it so well. Every square inch of the Chevelles sleek body was straightenedand#44; smoothedand#44; blockedand#44; and buffed before that miles-deep black paint went on. Realistic-looking flames were artfully airbrushed over the front fendersand#44; doorsand#44; and quartersand#44; then the whole thing was polished to a show-stopping shine. There was no pretense of making it factory-correctand#44; although it isnt an original SS and it does wear SS badges todayand#44; but does it even matter? A cowl-induction hood was installed after having a massive hole cut in itand#44; but thats the only non-stock panel on the exterior of the carand#44; and againand#44; it doesnt really have much to do with the quality of the carand#44; which is simply off-the-charts. Most of the trimand#44; including the grilleand#44; bumpersand#44; and window surroundsand#44; has been painted black to blend in with the bodyworkand#44; giving the car an insanely sinister look that definitely gets noticedand#44; never mind the giant engine hanging out of the hood or the cackling side pipes. This sucker just looks nasty. Its a street carand#44; of courseand#44; but the race-quality gear inside speaks of this Chevelles performance potentialand#44; which is considerable. The entire interior was recently done by ASM Auto Upholstery in Dallas to the tune of $10and#44;000 plus we may add. The complete interior is a mix of leather and faux ostrich which goes great with the black exterior. The seats are racing buckets that have been re-covered in all new materialand#44; theres also a matching center console and dash pad. A 6-point cage is there for safety and structural strengthand#44; yet doesnt really get in the way of the doors thanks to sloping side bars. The original dash is augmented by a few Auto Meter instruments and a very nice wood steering wheel with the classic SS emblem in the middle. Hurst supplied the 4-speed shifter and cue ball knoband#44; which is the primary source of entertainmentand#44; but theres also a complete sound systemand#44; powered by a new JVC head unit. The Chevelles ample trunk has been filled with a fuel cell and battery boxand#44; plus the down bars for the cageand#44; all helping it work better when it matters. The heart of the beast is a 383 cubic inch strokerand#44; to which a Weiand blower and dual quads were added. The dream was to build an outrageous monster whose engine would tower over the roofand#44; and theyve certainly succeeded. But if you look closerand#44; the thing is just beautifully built. First offand#44; everything under the hood is either black or carbon fiberand#44; including the twin Edelbrock carburetors and the blower itself. An Edelbrock intake is one of the few shiny bits under the hood and the valve covers have been painted to match the bodyworkand#44; flames and all. Long-tube headers dump into those brutal black side pipes and the 4-speed spins a 12-bolt with its own flamed cover. The suspension is fairly stockand#44; but it has a nasty rake and sits just right on those 20-inch Valente wheels (in blackand#44; naturally) which wear 235/35/20 front and 285/40/20 rear performance radials. Noand#44; this car isnt for everyone but if a subtle kind of overkill is your thingand#44; cars like this just dont come along all that often. Call today! |
