1967 was a great year for the Chevelleand#44; and when you find a clean hardtop like thisand#44; it probably makes sense to build the nicest car you can around it. Bright red paint doesnt hurtand#44; eitherand#44; because you want it to get noticedand#44; and with a thumping 454 cubic inch big block under the hoodand#44; you can afford to have a little swagger on the street. The later Chevelles get a lot of attentionand#44; but in 67and#44; the car was elegantand#44; smoothand#44; and restrainedand#44; and even in bright red it doesnt seem to be trying too hard. With a stock hood with those cool inserts to set it apart from all the cars wearing fake cowl-induction unitsand#44; this very attractive Chevelle was nicely finished for the show fieldand#44; but still knows how to have fun on the street. The bodywork is extremely well done and the paintand#44; while not perfectand#44; is pretty darned close; its one of the nicest weve ever seen. No stripes or other add-onsand#44; but it does have a proper SS grille and crossed-flag badges on its flanksand#44; both a part of the SS package that also included a big block engine. The badges say 396 but today theres a bit more living under the hoodand#44; but the warning is certainly appreciated. The 67s are also neat because of their chrome detailsand#44; including nice bumpersand#44; a shiny grilleand#44; and some of the most attractive taillights of the era. Add in a black vinyl top and it takes on a more formal air and there are no signs of trouble living under the new top. Red upholstery works rather well with the red exteriorand#44; and its a nice break from the usual black. It has been nicely restored to pretty much stock specs with beautiful new seat coversand#44; door panelsand#44; and correct carpets. The bright parts and crisp detailing give it a like new look insideand#44; particularly the SS steering wheel and nicely presented instrumentsand#44; which are joined by a trio of auxiliary gauges under the dash. A console with a T-handle shifter looks great and adds to this cars performance credentials and youll be surprised by how pretty a stock steering wheel can be. A digital AM/FM stereo radio slots into the original location and even uses original-style knobs so it really blends in nicelyand#44; and the A/C uses updated hardware under the hood. Even the trunk is conservatively finished with a black mat and a spare tire assembly with cover. So like I saidand#44; the badges say 396 but thats actually a newer 454 cubic inch big block thats been dressed up like a stocker. The extra 58 cubes certainly help with horsepower and with a 4-barrel carburetor and an HEI ignition systemand#44; it definitely has the moves to live up to its looks. Theres correct Chevy Orange paintand#44; a reproduction decal on the stock air cleaner (showing 325 horsepower)and#44; and big block valve covers in chromeand#44; just as they should be. A TH400 3-speed automatic will take all the punishment the 454 can dish outand#44; as can the 12-bolt out backand#44; so dont be afraid to lean on the loud pedal now and then. The underside is beautifully restoredand#44; suggesting this was a frame-off joband#44; and a new Flowmaster exhaust system sounds suitably aggressive for fun on the street. Factory Rally wheels look right and are fitted with Firestone redline bias-plys that are exactly right for a vintage muscle car. Nicely turned out and only a little bit sneakyand#44; this is a great-running big block Chevelle thats ready to enjoy. The fact that its red is only icing on the cake. Call today! |
