I purchased this car in San Francisco from Mike Young. Mike is a great guy and is widely known in the Datsun Roadster circles for his experience and expertise with these special cars. You can Google his name and learn much. My wife and I then toured Napa Valley, with the pale yellow convertible creating photo ops at every stop. Now, back in the real world, the Roadster sits idle too often, as we buzz our kids around in our boring domestic sleds. Alas, I have decided that my current life stage prevents me from adequately enjoying my beloved Roadster. My fascination with beautiful classic cars is an affliction which many men can relate. One would be hard-pressed to find a collector car more satisfying than the 1967.5 Datsun 2000. For me, the entire appearance and driving experience of the Roadster is appealing. The short windshield with chrome center support , the flat dash, the low ride height, the satisfying exhaust note, the self-centering shifter, the tight handling, the impressive acceleration, and the attention it gets is almost embarrassing. I have owned three Roadsters over the past ten years. The first two served to fuel my desire to own a nice 67 2-liter. They are nearly impossible to find for one thing. Second, if you DO find one, the restoration costs are insane IF you can find a capable restorer. Third, it makes no sense to spend the restoration dollars for a 1600 or a later 2000, because they will never be as valuable 67 2-liter. There are so few 2-liter 67s, they are almost known by their VINs like the names of people. This car is 550, and it has an interesting and well documented history. Mr. Young restored 550 with originality and drivability in mind. The car has an original patina that allows one to appreciate its age, but a mechanical precision that allows the driver to appreciate its performance. 550 is a thrill to drive. The tight steering, the exhaust note, the acceleration, the smooth shifter, all contribute to create an experience that is impossible to duplicate in any modern car.
