What youre looking at here is one of the rarest of Henrys pony carsand#44; a 1967 Ford Mustang convertible with the top-of-the-line S-code 390 cubic inch V8 and a 4-speed manual gearbox. Ford didnt build very many of theseand#44; and except for the Shelbysand#44; it pretty much represents the pinnacle of Blue Oval pony car performance in 1967. The Springtime Yellow finish helps camouflage the serious performance hardware underneathand#44; and for a car with a pedigree like thisand#44; the workmanship more than measures up. Its smoothand#44; shinyand#44; and well appliedand#44; far better than it would have been when it was newand#44; and the black hood inserts act as a kind of warning for those who are paying attention. Fit and finish are excellentand#44; with even gaps and doors that fit welland#44; and theres just no evidence that this car was ever rusty or abused. Insteadand#44; it appears that it has always been treated as something specialand#44; and even with the thundering big block under the hoodand#44; it doesnt seem to have been hammered on Friday nights. Along the wayand#44; someone has added a set of GT-spec fog lampsand#44; which always look great on the 67sand#44; and its also equipped with the Exterior Décor Groupand#44; which includes the bright trim around the rear valence. The chrome bumpers are also quite nice and the whole car sparkles in the sunlightand#44; as it should. The black bucket seat interior is also original-specand#44; and you can see just how well-restored this car is by looking at the details. Check out the center consoleand#44; the original steering wheeland#44; and the bright trim on the seats themselves. Its got newer seat coversand#44; fresh carpetsand#44; and new door panelsand#44; all of which replicate the original parts exactly. The Marti Report and window sticker indicate that this was originally an automatic transmission carand#44; but along the way it was fitted with a correct 4-speed and from the drivers seatand#44; the change is all but invisible. The gauges are beautifully restored with bright markings and clear lenses and the original AM radio is still in the dashand#44; right above the garage storage compartment. Overhead you get a beautiful black power convertible top with a correct split rear window that folds easily and hides under a matching black boot. The trunk is outfitted with a correct plaid mat that fits well and looks great. OKand#44; the S-code designation means this Mustang packs the top 390 cubic inch V8and#44; whichand#44; in Mustang guiseand#44; makes 335 rompingand#44; stomping horsepower. Rebuilt to stock specs and beautifully detailedand#44; the engine bay looks showroom fresh thanks to little details like reproduction decals and properly stamped hoses. Chrome details are standard-issue on the hi-po motors like thisand#44; including the air cleaner lid and Powered by Ford valve covers. Ford blue on the block contrasts nicely with the satin black engine bayand#44; too. The engine starts easily and idles nicelyand#44; but when you step on it and all four barrels open upand#44; theres a huge shove of torque that you just dont get in a small block Mustang. The 4-speed was retrofittedand#44; and makes this car a lot more entertaining to driveand#44; yet it retains its 3.00 gears out backand#44; so its still very easy to live with every day. Front disc brakes and power steering are welcome additions to the equipment rosterand#44; and youll find a fresh Magnaflow dual exhaust system underneath. Big 17-inch Torque Thrust wheels advertise performanceand#44; and theyre wrapped in 275/55/17 rubber that totally fills the wheel wells. The Holy Grail of early Mustangsand#44; this S-code convertible delivers big block performanceand#44; awesome good looksand#44; and a pedigree that will ensure its value in the future.
