The Triumph TR4 is a British sports car which was produced by the Triumph Motor Company from 1961 to 1967. The car was based on the chassis and drivetrain of the previous TR sports cars, but with a modern Michelotti styled body. Only 40,253 cars were built. The TR4 proved very successful and continued the rugged, hairy-chested image that the previous TRs had enjoyed. The new TR4 body style did away with classical cutaway door design of previous TRs to allow for roll-up windows in place of side curtains, and a trunk with considerable capacity for a sports car. In 1965, the TR4A with IRS or independent rear suspension superseded the TR4. Apart from the rear suspension, and a number of small styling changes and refinements, the two models appear nearly identical. In fact, an estimated 25 per cent of TR4As were not equipped with IRS, but instead reverted to a live axle design similar to the TR4, which was adapted to fit the new chassis. The TR4 had a number of racing successes in America and continues to be raced in vintage sports car events and even won an SCCA class championship as late as 1991. This particular TR4A is one of the late cars built and with the rare solid rear axle. The has has just 49k original miles and has had two owners. Remarkably it has original body panels and not rusted floors with an undercarriage that has never been undercoated and never damaged. Further, it retains the original wood dash in near perfect condition. The car drives as new, free of shakes and rattles. It has had routine maintenance and recent service to include a new gas tank. The engine oil pressure is excellent and no smoke. It comes with original jack, hammer, and factory manual. It also has the original top boot cover. The original Michelin X spare is in excellent and the car has nearly new period correct whitewall radials. A very, very enjoyable car to drive.
