Camaro RS/SS. 396 Stick shift. Rallye Green with standard black interior. This Camaro was sold new in Tucson AZ and brought to Illinois in 1980. It was carefully disassembled and refinished with a fresh coat of single stage lacquer over the next two years. Since then this Camaro has been gingerly driven only 12,000 miles and currently shows just under 62,000 on the odometer. The previous owners stated the car was originally equipped with the L89 engine. Although there is no documentation to back this up, the car has the tell-tale signs of being a 375 HP car. Currently powered by a 1969 325 HP 396 backed by a Tremec TKO 600 5 speed with the original 12 bolt 4.10 rear end with 5 leaf springs. This is a manual steering/power brake equipped vehicle. The front drum brakes were replaced about 6 years ago for safety reasons with a Baer 11.5 4 piston system. The original front drum system will be included with the sale. A pleasure to drive, the car has been taken to Detroit and back and got close to 20 MPG cruising at 75-80. The exterior retains all original sheet metal, trim, bumpers, and glass. The floor pans are all original as well. This vehicle has not seen rain in almost 4 decades. The underside is amazingly clean with only the slightest hints that it had been redone almost 40 years ago.On the inside you will also find most of the original parts from 1968. The front buckets have been recovered, and the front door panels replaced. A reproduction wood wheel about 6 years ago, but still have the original as well. The remainder of the interior appears all factory and in excellent condition. There is a factory console with gauge package, 6K Tic-Toc-Tach, and AM radio. Also included is a painted non-spoiler trunk lid which is original to the car. This car is such a pleasure to look at. The original trim pieces, door handles, mirrors, bumpers all have the slightest hints of patina, but are in beautiful condition. The body panel fitment and overall solid feel of this car are amazing. Anyone that is familiar with first gen cars will appreciate the condition of this vehicle even more. The Rallye Green, only available the second half of 68, is a real stand out and this car gets noticed everywhere it goes. Please see the Camaro Performers article from Sept 2011 for additional information and photos. The car looks absolutely no different today. Additional pictures upon request. Located west of Chicago in north central Illinois. Asking $48,000. I do have an aluminum head 489 ci engine from another project that could be included for anyone that may be interested. |
