Details: | Like the word Hemi for Mopar fans, or Boss for Ford fans, no words quite excite Chevy fans as the words Super Sport, all of which are synonymous with muscle cars. This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS396 is a Van Nuys-built car and was recently pulled from a storage unit where it had sat for the last 21 years. As a Van Nuys car, this Super Sport did not come with an X-code stamped on the cowl tag like its Norwood counterparts, and as a result, the only way to verify its build history as a true SS396 car is with the original Broadcast Sheet, however, this Camaro comes with that holy-grail of all vehicle documents which verifies its authenticity. Originally built with an L35 325hp 396ci big block V8 mated to a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission according to the JG engine code on the Broadcast Sheet, the original big block bottom end was replaced under warranty by GM shortly after it was purchased so while it is not numbers matching, it does have a factory replacement under the hood and the original top end parts such as the heads and intake manifold were reinstalled. This Camaro is also equipped with a 12-bolt rear end with 3.07 gears which was standard for a big block car, and other codes, such as the BK rear springs, and TN rear shocks all indicate that this Camaro is a true big-block Super Sport car and other features on the car include power steering, power disc brakes, and air conditioning. Additionally, this andrsquo;69 Camaro was not only built in Los Angeles, it has also resided in California its entire life and is an original California black plate car with both plates present and still registered to it. This Camaro is still shown in its original colors of Garnet Red on Medium Red, but its original Parchment vinyl top has been replaced with a black vinyl top, and it rides on its original set of Rallye wheels. Inside, the interior is original except for the driverandrsquo;s seat which has been recovered at one point, and the original radio and steering wheel have been changed but the car comes with its original parts, along with the original smog pump. Although the big block under the hood lay dormant for many years, it is now running and driving and needs little to get back to road worthy condition, which this car deserves as a true Super Sport Camaro and an iconic piece of muscle car history. |
