This 1969 Cougar XR7Convertible is all original, a one owner car, with a 351 Windsor V8, Four Speed Hurst Shifter, with 52,908 original miles. She simply wants to be driven like she looks! This is an incredible find, one really nice example of these fine cars and Mercury’s entry into the pony car market. Fitted with Mercury’s European-influenced styling, this Convertiblereally differentiates itself from the ’67-’68 Mustangs. Like many highly option Mustangs, though, this Cougar came from the factory with the potent 351V8. It’s greatfun on the road, great to look at, easy to work on, and surprisingly comfortable. and enjoyable to drive.
The body of the car does need some work, the front torque boxes need the normaltherapy, but this is one heck of a nice and original car and deservesan upgrade. The paintlooksvery good, the interior is in very goodto excellent condition, and the body panels are all very godo as well. For us, this car is all about style. It’s not the fastest or loudest pony car, but it’s got the iconic “electric razor” grill, the hideaway headlights, the burble from the 351V8. The color combination is fantastic, it looks great with the top down, andthe headlightswork!
The interior is in very good to excellent condition.The tanbucket seats are comfortable and sporty, and the center console adds gives the car a “grand tourer” feel. The headliner and dash are also in great shape, too.
Underneath, the car does need some work, the torque boxes have been neglected, but this car is an all original and excellent example of these cars that with some minor work will be a great car.
It’s a clean, fun example that you canrestore, or build into a mean, fire breathing pony car. With so many Mustangs and Camaros on the road, it’s nice to roll into cruise night in something a little unique!
