This clean-looking 1970 Dodge Super Bee is one of only 5737 built in 70 with a 383 and a heavy-duty automatic transmission. Wearing a coat of light yellow paint and all the proper decalsand#44; its a super clean and highly unusual piece of muscle car history that is largely overlooked by collectors today. Laser-straight bodywork is especially critical on the restyled 1970 Dodgesand#44; and you can see from the unbroken curves on this ones flanks that the bodywork has been extremely well done. The paint is only a few years old so it still looks freshand#44; and combined with the black Super Bee stripesand#44; its an aggressive-looking package that didnt disappoint Mopar fans in 1970. We dont know the colorand#44; its not quite bright enough to be Top Bananaand#44; but we have to admit we like the contrast of the soft color and brutal performance waiting underneath. It also sports cool details like the unique chrome bumpers that frame the front grillesand#44; as well as the Super Bee logo on the quarters. This one also carries hood pinsand#44; fender-mounted turn signalsand#44; and proper red accents on the tail panel. The chrome and stainless trim is very good throughoutand#44; including the wheel arch moldings and bumpersand#44; so it looks great hammering down the road. The spending didnt stop at the exteriorand#44; either. Instead of a tattered original interiorand#44; youll find a beautifully restored black drivers compartment that looks great. With correct seat coversand#44; the interior matches the standards set by the rest of the carand#44; although the carpets are showing a bit of age. Other components like the door panels and headliner are in good shape as welland#44; showing crisp detailing and brightwork thats the hallmark of a good restoration. The gauges appear to be original and in good condition and the column shifter is a nod to the Super Bees affordable mission. The only notable upgrade inside is the addition of an AM/FM/CD stereo head unitand#44; which powers speakers stashed unobtrusively throughout the interior. Nice! Theres also a neatly finished trunk with reproduction mat and spare tire assembly. Power comes from a nicely detailed and period-correct 383 that delivers 300 horsepower. Hemi Orange was still on the engines in 70and#44; and looks just right in the Super Bees engine bay. Theres a 4-barrel carburetor up topand#44; fed directly by those two scoops on top of the hoodand#44; and the entire assembly makes for a very impressive presentation when you open it up. It hasnt been modified or altered in any significant wayand#44; but when you feel how it runsand#44; I doubt youll be wishing for more power. Power steering is a welcome upgrade and the original cast iron manifolds feed a great-sounding dual exhaust system with performance mufflers that may add a few horsepower. The transmission is a heavy-duty TorqueFliteand#44; driving an 8.75-inch rear with 3.23s inside and theres a new gas tank hanging out back. Basic steel wheels with poverty hubcaps are still the most industrial-looking rolling stock you can haveand#44; with these wearing relatively fresh 235/60/15 Firestone radials. With a strong-running big block under the hoodand#44; a fantastic paint joband#44; and a handsome interiorand#44; this Super Bee is more than worthy of carrying the name. If youre tired of seeing the same old cars at every cruise night and car showand#44; try this one on for size. Call today! |
