Description All original sheetmetal 351C 4bbl, Automatic Highly original Great running, driving car Classic colors and good looks A unique way to arrive in style This car is significant because the 1970 Cougar introduced car buyers to a different breed of car. Although the Cougar was largely a twin of the Ford Mustang, in 1970 it started to steer free from the expected. Yes it was considered by many as a muscle car but by 1970 it moved towards new territory and became known as a plush pony car. Mercury even hired fashion designer Pauline Trigere who introduced the houndstooth pattern. Outside, youll find the cars one and only repaint, and that was only done about a dozen years ago. The car was shipped new to the Denver area where it remained dry and clean. (If youre not aware, Colorado has a TON of preserved cars.) It was caught in a freak sandstorm and enough of the original paint was damaged just enough to need to be redone. The chrome and stainless trim were polished or replated, and the glass weathered the experience very well. The panels are straight, the doors close soundly and the car has a great look overall. Cougars can pull off the Bright Gold paint color with ease and class. Inside, we cant get enough of the brown and black houndstooth seats. Theyre in great shape and are either original or were made from NOS material. The original door panels and dash are in excellent condition, and even the rim blow steering wheel works perfectly! The original radio is in the dash while the 8 track under the dash is connected to the two drive-in speakers on the back deck--those bring a smile to everyone who sees them. Under the hood is the original 351 Cleveland 4bbl. It starts immediately and drops to low idle with a quick press of the gas pedal. Theres a newer dual exhaust system underneath with three chamber Flowmasters, so it sounds great. The engine is strong and smooth, and it doesnt fight you. Its the perfect engine for upscale cruising. The original transmission was rebuilt a year and a half ago and it shifts perfectly. The original rear axle now has a new Detroit Locker differential and the brake booster and master cylinder are new. New shocks are all around, and the rest of the suspension wear parts were replaced as necessary though they largely original. We had someone who wanted to know how rusty the chassis was. We figured itd be in nice shape considering the original outer panels, but we were blown away by how clean the floors and frames were. A thick layer of undercoating was applied years ago, and combined with Colorados favorable climate there isnt a square inch of rust in the chassis. All of the original pinch welds are intact, all of the original sheetmetal is still in place and none of it needs any attention whatsoever. Its one of the cleanest muscle cars weve ever had here. This is a great car to drive and display. Its different, its good looking and its very reasonably priced. Plus, with only 110,881 believed miles, it is well worth your time and money! Give us a call and bag this cat today. At the Motor Car Group, were enthusiasts first. We want you to enjoy your new car from the minute its delivered and the trailer door drops.
