There arent many cars that inspire car-related lust like the Plymouth Cuda. And in the muscle car eraand#44; 1970 was the biggest year of all. This particular 1970 Plymouth Cuda is a special oneand#44; sporting its matching-numbers 383/4-speed powertrainand#44; a long list of factory options including A/Cand#44; and a perfect period color combination that will make it stand out anywhere it goes. Go Mango is this cars original colorand#44; and there arent many colors that work better on a Mopar. Not quite orange and not quite yellowand#44; its definitely one of the high-impact hues that Chrysler used to generate excitement in showroomsand#44; and it looks especially good in todays monochromatic world. The paint and bodywork are quite nicely restoredand#44; with good gaps and smooth panelsand#44; and only a few touch-ups that are an inevitable part of age when youre a fast car. Theres no denying that this car was built to look fastand#44; a benefit of Chryslers delay in developing the E-body twins to combat the Camaro and Mustangand#44; and its probably why the Cuda remains a perennial favorite. Add in the white 383 hockey sticksand#44; the hood pins and twin scoopsand#44; and a set of fog lamps hanging under the front bumperand#44; and you have a car that looks fast just sitting still. A few splashes of brightworkand#44; most notably the chrome bumpers and that ribbed rocker panel trimand#44; give the Cuda a finished look thats very appealing. The white interior is also the way this car was ordered and its a nice combination of new and original components. The seat coversand#44; carpetsand#44; and door panels have been replacedand#44; but the headliner and dash are likely originaland#44; suggesting a car thats been well-maintained all its life. Today it looks fantasticand#44; with high-back buckets giving it a sporty attitude. A full complement of Rallye gaugesand#44; including optional tachometerand#44; are set into four round pods in the dashand#44; and the pistol-grip shifter is an iconic way to top the 4-speed manual transmission. Youll note this car has a long list of optionsand#44; including a 6-way drivers seatand#44; twin mirrorsand#44; and factory A/Cand#44; which is still using R12 refrigerant that just needs to be topped off to be fully functional. Black floor mats protect the replacement carpets and the original Music Master AM radio is still in the dashand#44; although its not currently functional. The trunk shows you just how through the restoration wasand#44; with bright Go Mango paint and a reproduction mat. The engine is the originaland#44; numbers-matching 383 cubic inch V8 mated to the original 4-speed manual transmission. Thats a great pedigreeand#44; and while the 440s and Hemis get all the attentionand#44; its hard to beat a good-running 383 on the street. Eager to rev but with a big hit of low-end torqueand#44; its a great muscle car engine. The engine bay is tidyand#44; but not detailed for showand#44; and the big A/C compressor dominates the show. Theres also a correct air cleaner with 383 decalsand#44; a big radiator up frontand#44; and Hemi Orange paint on the block. Dual exhaust is coded onto the fender tagand#44; and a correct reproduction system lives underneath along with a fresh gas tank out back. Its also got the optional performance axle package with 3.55 gears inside an 8.75-inch rear end and the floors underneath are as nicely restored as the rest of the car. Factory Rallye wheels with bright trim rings are fitted with correct reproduction F60-15 Firestone Wide Oval bias-ply tiresand#44; as original. Documented with the original window stickerand#44; owners manualand#44; title documentationand#44; and restoration recordsand#44; this is a Cuda with a fantastic pedigree thats just a joy to drive.
