While a lot of collectors are busy chasing Cudas and Road Runners theyre quick to overlook the Plymouth GTX. Available with the same ground-pounding big blocks as its brothers the GTX was a refined alternative for the guy who wanted serious performance wrapped in line-topping class. This awesome GTX a correctly restored car thats still equipped with original 440 6 BBL power is the kind of classic thatll show and go just as well as its esteemed brethren. And whats better: its something decidedly unique in the world of big block MoPars. So if youre ready to take the road less traveled have a look at this stylish blue Plymouth!

BODYWORK/TRIM

This slick B-Bodys ground-up restoration began with what appears to be a solid rust-free body. That body was painstakingly stripped sanded and massaged to better-than-new condition. Once those massaged panels were correctly aligned a smooth coat of Bright Blue Metallic 2-stage was laid under factory war paint. And the result is an ultra-straight fully detailed pavement pounder that thanks to its high quality assembly literally glows under our bright showroom lighting.

Every bit of this coupes classy ornamentation is extremely clean lending excellent detail to the aforementioned pigment. At the front of the car a black honeycomb grille hangs a bold GTX script between four halogen headlights crystal clear parking lamps and a guarded bumper. Behind that grille a raised hood centers a wind-cheating scoop in front of chip-free glass thats framed in bright stainless trim. Below that glass a slab-sided profile hangs stylish scoops and aggressive GTX emblems between dent-free wheel lips a bright chrome mirror and old school door handles. And at the back of the car a striking black valence founds crystal clear tail lamps above a wide PLYMOUTH script a second chrome bumper and spotless stainless exhaust tips.

ENGINE

Hoist the cars striped and decaled hood and youll find an original 440 cubic inch RB V8 that hangs a correct 2536430 casting number between an August 5th 1969 casting date a correct F assembly stamp and a matching partial VIN. More popular than Chryslers famed Hemi and almost as feared Plymouths storied 440 6 BBL was designed to be the industrys best combination of comfort streetability and big block performance. Oxygen whips through functional cowl induction to a correctly decaled air cleaner and three Holley 2-barrels which are bolted to a beefy intake. At the front of those carbs a traditional points distributor sequences fire through proven Chrysler Electronic Suppression cables. At the sides of that intake Hemi Orange valve covers perfectly contrast old school exhaust manifolds. Cooling is provided by a heavy duty radiator thats cinched to pliable hoses via simple squeeze clamps. Power is provided by a tagged MoPar battery. And aesthetically the engine bay looks great from its correct decals and Bright Blue fenders to its old school washer reservoir and fully restored brake booster.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Given this Plymouths vivid paint and clean engine bay great looks mustve been the mantra of its restoration. Check our undercarriage photos and youll find a fully restored chassis that backs a roster of tough componentry with solid body-matched floors. Behind the 440 a correct A727 TorqueFlite twists power to a tagged Dana 60 thats fitted with a posi-traction differential and stout 3.54 gears. Below that proven drivetrain a familiar front torsion bar and rear leaf suspension has with the exception of modern KYB shocks been completely rebuilt to factory specifications. Stops are provided by power front disc and
