For those of you who think that the muscle car era ended in 1970and#44; let this 1971 Chevelle SS454 serve as proof to the contrary. Numbers-matchingand#44; heavily documentedand#44; brutally fastand#44; and exceptionally well-finishedand#44; this incredible LS5 Chevelle stalks the streets like the muscle car era never ended. According to the reproduction window sticker and build sheetand#44; both of which come with the carand#44; the only major deviation from stock on this amazing Chevelle is the color. Howeverand#44; given that the factory painted it Classic Copperand#44; its kind of understandable that during the bare-metal respray that they might want to show off a bit. So it was treated to basic blackand#44; and nothing looks better on a big block Chevelle than this formal tuxedo of a paint job. It isand#44; as youd expectand#44; extremely nice and since they knew they were doing a color changeand#44; they went the extra mile to get it straight. White SS stripes are beautifully applied and belong on this carand#44; which is unquestionably a real-deal SS454. It shows only the most minor signs of useand#44; but theres no question this car was built to show off and aside from the inevitable small nick here and thereand#44; the sucker looks ready for competition at the highest levels. It also wears a correct black vinyl roofand#44; which was how it came originallyand#44; and the replacement piece fits extremely well. Nice chromeand#44; new emblemsand#44; polished stainlessand#44; and all the other little details are sharply detailed as well. The car also came with Sandalwood interiorand#44; which has been swapped to white for great effect against the black paint. The seats are blindingly cleanand#44; but its not overwhelming thanks to black carpets and a matching dashand#44; which invert the exterior colors and give it a very inviting look. Given the cars pedigreeand#44; there are no major modifications or alterations insideand#44; just nicely restored components that more than live up to the standards set by the exterior. Bright gauge faces (including a factory tach)and#44; an almost flawless steering wheeland#44; and a center console make it feel factory-fresh inside. That window sticker I mentioned also includes a rather lengthy list of optionsand#44; including factory air-conditioningand#44; an AM/FM stereo radioand#44; rear window defrosterand#44; tilt steering columnand#44; and a remote-control rear view mirror. Aside from the door panels showing a little bit of ageand#44; the interior is as nicely preserved as the interiorand#44; including the trunk which is properly finished with a correct mat and full-sized bias-ply spare. The LS5 454 cubic inch V8 cranked out a stout 365 horsepower in 1971and#44; yet was user-friendly enough to run power steering and A/Cand#44; making it the best of both worlds. Highly detailedand#44; fully rebuiltand#44; and numbers-matchingand#44; the engine has limitless reserves of torque and is just a quick wipe-down away from being ready to pop the hood at a show. Power steering and brakes are includedand#44; and the TH400 3-speed automatic transmission shifts without hesitation and powers a 12-bolt rear with Positraction. A detailed chassis shows quite well and includes a new dual exhaust system that sounds just right. Gorgeous factory SS wheels are arguably the best-looking OEM hoops of the era and carry F60-15 Goodyear Polyglas tires for a showroom-correct look. Simply stunning in every wayand#44; fully documented and highly pedigreedand#44; this is the Chevelle that youve been waiting for. And because most guys foolishly think the horsepower wars ended in 1970and#44; its a lot more affordable than some of its older siblings. Call today! |
