To get the big jobs doneand#44; you need a heavy-duty truck. But if you dont need dual rear wheels and fuel economy in the single digitsand#44; a 1-ton is probably too much. Thats where this 1971 Ford F-250 fits in. Outfitted with a 390 cubic inch V8 and the Camper Special upgradeand#44; its readyand#44; willingand#44; and able to work hard but doesnt beat you up while doing it. The handsome maroon paint gives it a dignified look thats a good fit on the handsome Ford sheetmetal. The angular look was popular for many yearsand#44; and for a lot of usand#44; these trucks were ubiquitous around job sitesand#44; farmsand#44; and other places where work was getting done. Fortunatelyand#44; this one seems to have survived its years as a workhorse and as a resultand#44; offers a lot of value for the dollar. The paint isnt originaland#44; of courseand#44; and when it was refinishedand#44; some of the chrome and stainless was shaved to clean it up without turning it into a custom. Its not perfectand#44; not a show pieceand#44; but more than presentable for the Friday night cruise while still being able to head down to the general store to get some suppliesand#44; too. The long bed means itll carry just about anything you need to move and its outfitted for rugged duty with an aluminum tailgate protector and a spray-in bedliner in the bed itself. The chrome and bright trim that does remain is in very good conditionand#44; including the heavy-duty rear bumper thats equipped with a hitchand#44; just in case. Truck interiors in 1971 were still basicand#44; but this one has been dressed up a bit since then. The black bench seat is durable and attractiveand#44; while still offering the wipe-it-off practicality of the original. Black carpets definitely help with the upscale feel and help control noise and heat inside the cab. Andand#44; of courseand#44; theres that wood-rimmed Grant steering wheeland#44; which really warms things up in a good way. The factory gauges are standard Ford rectanglesand#44; but they all seem to be workingand#44; plus a tachometer tucked in underneath. Someone has also added an AM/FM/CD stereo head unit in the center of the dash with new speakers in the door panels. Theres also an aftermarket sunroofand#44; which makes the cab feel bright and airy and when removedand#44; provides plenty of breezy ventilation so you wont even think about A/C when youre driving. Moving big loads takes big powerand#44; and the 390 cubic inch V8 definitely delivers. Its not prettyand#44; but it runs greatand#44; starting easily and pulling with big block torque from low RPM. Aside from the chrome dress-upand#44; its also been enhanced with an Edelbrock carburetor and aluminum intake manifoldand#44; plus a set of long-tube headersand#44; so its got very sharp throttle response and plenty of power. Heavy-duty upgrades that were part of the Camper Special package include a giant radiatorand#44; a power steering coolerand#44; and a transmission coolerand#44; all designed for a longand#44; healthy life. Underneathand#44; theres a C6 3-speed automatic transmissionand#44; new U-jointsand#44; and a beefy rear end that looks big enough to be under a dump truck. Insideand#44; there are 4.56 gearsand#44; so the truck feels snappy around town and doesnt even flinch when pulling the big loads. Recent alloy wheels with charcoal gray centers look fantastic and are fitted with new Hankook radials all around. This isnt a show pieceand#44; but it is a cool old truck that is fun to drive and still doesnt mind doing truck-like things. Call today! |
