1972 Ferrari 365 GTC/4 s/n 16057 Anthracite with Black Leather Interior When introduced, the 365 GTC/4 was Ferraris top of the line model, a sort of gentlemans express that brought the performance and experience of the 12-cylinder front-engined cars with a degree of comfort and refinement that made the car more usable. With a comfortable, relaxed seating position, more interior space, functional air conditioning, and power steering, the 365 GTC/4 achieves a pleasant balance between a thoroughbred sports car and a luxury grand touring car, and is considerably less exhausting to drive than the 365 GTB/4Daytona produced during the same period. The 365 GTC/4 is the most mechanically sophisticated and highest performance of the classic 2+2 Ferraris, and has enjoyed considerable appreciation in recent years. This particular is an exceptionally high quality example that won a Platinum award at Cavallino in January of 2014, which independently verifies that is among the best examples available. Originally a European delivery car, this car remains in European trim, with no smog equipment, no side reflectors, European amber rear lenses, and Italian market clear front lenses. This example eventually found its way to Florida by May of 1986, when it was offered for sale by Shelton Ferrari. The car was restored in the mid 1990s by Bruno Wyssandrsquo; Sportgarage in Switzerland, who was previously an official Ferrari dealer and is well-known in vintage Ferrari circles for his high quality work and parts. The interior was retrimmed by the famed Italian Ferrari specialist Luppi. Wyss retained the car until 2007, at which point he sold the car to an owner in Canada, who kept the car for seven years. In January of 2014, the car was shown at Cavallino, where it was awarded Platinum, receiving deductions for minor paint imperfections, a dashboard trimmed in leather rather than mouse fur, and a missing choke cable. The carandrsquo;s owner then drove it back to Dallas from Florida without incident, demonstrating that the car is as well resolved mechanically as it is cosmetically. Cosmetically, the car is of course exceptional. The body is straight and displays great fit. The paintwork was performed to high standards and appears extremely fresh and with only a few flaws including minor surface imperfections, a pair of stress cracks on the front of the car (one corner of the hood aperture and one near the left headlamp cover), as well as a handful of touched in chips. The brightwork is in excellent shape throughout, as are the glazing and lights. The wheels have been restored and wear near new Michelin XWX tires. The interior is in beautiful condition. The leather smells like a fine Italian shoe store and is in excellent shape throughout. In addition to covering the seats, leather covers the door panels, dashboard, and center console, all of which are in excellent shape. The instruments and switches are excellent as well, as well as the headliner. The radio is a period Becker Mexico. The steering wheel is also in superb condition other than small hairline cracks in the horn button. The engine compartment is extremely clean, beautifully detailed, and very correctly presented. The correct finishes, decals, and hardware are in place, down to the Magnetti Marelli battery and the windscreen washer bag. The car has been fitted with Pertronix ignition although there are no outward signs of the alteration. The trunk was fully restored with new carpet of the correct type. The car has books, tools, and jack bag with jack. The car runs and drives superbly with all systems appearing to operate well. The engine is well-tuned, makes good power and produces the famously fantastic noises for which C4s are well known. The gearbox is excellent including second gear synchro, and the chassis and brakes have an excellent, confidence-inspiring feel to them with no issues to report |
