You can call this 1972 Pontiac GTO tribute convertible a restomod or a pro-touring machineand#44; but really its so much more. Starting with a low-mileage convertibleand#44; next adding a modern GTO LS2 V8and#44; installing high end performance suspension componentsand#44; and wrapping it in an upgraded A/C interior – it all makes this total package the build youve always dreamed of owning. This convertible is absolutely stunning. Rendered in its factory-correct Lucerne Blueand#44; but today it has a much deeper luster thanks to an investment in modern clearcoat paint and a professional hand applying it. The result is a terrific shine thats begging for sunlightand#44; and thats exactly what you want in a classic convertible. Now upgraded to a GTOand#44; it gets all the aggressive details rightand#44; too. The large hood scoopsand#44; doubled side exhaustand#44; and the low rear bumper that gives this a convertible a sleek rear end like its trying to slip away unnoticed. And everyone will love seeing the special Year One alloys that take the iconic Rally II wheel design and make them larger and wider. This is an amazing looking classicand#44; but lets really understand what it took to get us here. Those who know Pontiacsand#44; know there was no GTO convertible in 1972and#44; but there was a droptop with very similar packaging called the Le Mans Sport. Complete with the optional Endura front endand#44; its a dead ringer for a GTO in convertible form. Best of alland#44; a code D67 car like this is rare – less than 3and#44;500 were produced in 72. With one touch of a buttonand#44; the pristine white vinyl top lowers to reveal a matching pristine white vinyl interior. Part of the Le Mans Sport packaging also included the bucket seatsand#44; and since this convertibles body has averaged around 850 miles annuallyand#44; we wouldnt be surprised if these were the original materials that still look fantastic today. This is a comfortable center console carand#44; and the machined aluminum around the gear stick nicely matches the lower portion of the dash. And as you look over the rest of the controlsand#44; dont be fooled by their appearance. While this looks like a exceptionally restored/preserved classicand#44; there are some great modern features such as an AM/FM subwoofer stereo with Bluetooth capabilityand#44; and theres ice-cold R134a air conditioning to keep you cool even with the top down in the summer. In factand#44; when you grab the factory steering wheeland#44; it gives you a clear view of a full modern Dakota Digital gauge package that has a cool blue glow. When you lift the hoodand#44; the engine covers say GTOand#44; but you instantly know this is not a motor from 72. Its a 6.0-liter LS2 powerplant borrowed from 2006 Pontiac GTOand#44; so this correctly tunedand#44; fuel-injected V8 gives a modern twist on a correct GTO lineage. But the moment you turn the keyand#44; the header-fed Magnaflow exhaust gives plenty of old-school muscle car rumble. The instillation of this 400 hp beast was done quite professionallyand#44; so it almost looks like the modern motor belonged within the satin black fender walls from day one. And this level of professionalism is seen throughout the whole drivertrain. After alland#44; a modern motor needs upgraded components to make the most of its big power. Thats why there is a full Detroit Speed adjustable coilover setup on the front and rear suspensions. There are also tubular A-arms up frontand#44; rear stabilizer linksand#44; and thick sway bars a both ends. A big power machine also needs stopping forceand#44; so theres upgraded four-wheel Master Power Brake disc brakesand#44; and the modern grip of BF Goodrich Sport Comp tires. And while all of this seems like the perfect vintage speed machineand#44; its also a great anytime cruiser thanks to features like power steering and the four-speed automatic transmission w/overdrive.
