The 1976 911S Targas combination of unparalleled drivability and usability is what Porsche enthusiasts love about it. There is a certain wholeness, cohesiveness, and agility that is present when they are driven, and it is no surprise that they have a respective following. For many years, however, they were just used cars, which makes finding genuinely solid examples, such as this one, difficult today. The 911S Targa has a addictingly sporting feel that gives the driver a more direct link to Porsches legendary competition heritage. Only 3687 cars in total were built worldwide. This example is a matching numbers, US spec car and comes with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. The US car sold new in Kingsport, Tennessee on June 29, 1976 to Mr. Richard Isaac by John Smith Porsche. The mileage on the day of delivery was recorded at 9 miles as shown in the original owners manual. Mr. Isaac regularly serviced this 911 Targa. After enjoying it for a few years, Mr. Isaac changed the exterior color from Sienna (Burgundy) Metallic to its current color of Grand Prix White. At the same time, it is believed that Mr. Isaac also replaced the leatherette interior with the proper rosette leather for the seats and the door panels. The second owner, Mr. Andy Klavins of Kalamazoo, Michigan purchased the Porsche in 1986. Mr. Klavins obtained the Targa with 87,095 miles recorded on the odometer. He retained the car for around 15 months and during this period, had spent $4,534.81 for European Import Service in Michigan to service the Porsche in detail. Then James and Laurie Ziech of Kalamazoo purchased the Targa from Mr. Klavins in 1987 with a total of 96,300 miles. The Ziechs enjoyed their model 911 for the next 27 years as members of the Porsche Club of America. Jim trusted the necessary maintenance to be completed by Mr. Claudio Kemp, owner of Foreign Car Service in Portage, Michigan. He kept their Porsche tuned to absolute perfection. When the odometer reached 100,581 miles, the Ziechs had Claudio rebuild and upgrade the entire engine so it ran like new. At 116,061 miles, the transmission was rebuilt and the Targas brake system was redone. In 2014, the consignee acquired the vehicle from Jim and Laurie Ziech, who departed the following day for Germany to tour the Porsche factory and take European delivery of their new 2015 Porsche Cabriolet. On October 6th, 2014, the Porsche left, still under ownership of the current consignee, for a complete restoration by Coachcraft Hollywood. They entrusted Coachcraft due to their reputation of being a very iconic Porsche body shop based in Southern California. Over the next 12 months, $76,396 was spent to restore the car, which includes an excellent $40,000 spent for the engine out paint work that finished the Targa in Grand Prix White. Post restoration, the consignee has enjoyed and driven the impressively restored Targa for just over 800 miles. Owning a 1976 Porsche Targa is a great investment for those who need the ultimate Porsche driving experience, however, dont have or want to pay $200,000 in order to obtain it. The great part about owning this 76 Targa is that it pertains many similarities in looks and specs in comparison to the 1972 and 1973 Porsche 911s. This Targa carries itself as if it was a pre 74 Porsche but is available without a large pocket investment which is beneficial to any car buyer.
