In case you havent noticedand#44; but the 70s are cool againand#44; and the wilderand#44; the better when it comes to cars. Howeverand#44; this 1979 Camaro RS bucks the trend with a cool two-tone paint job that still looks contemporaryand#44; and youll undoubtedly find out once youre behind the wheeland#44; it drives pretty darned welland#44; too! OKand#44; so the guys in charge of naming colors werent all that creative in 1979and#44; but this car does still wear a correct coat of Black over Silver paint that someone spent a decent amount of cash restoring to its current condition. Two-tone combinations were unique to the RSand#44; and you could forget things like a vinyl roofand#44; so it looks quite sleek. When you get closerand#44; youll see that the sheetmetal is straight and cleanand#44; the paint work was expertly appliedand#44; and everything lines up quite nicely. As a southern car all its lifeand#44; there are no fears of hidden tin worm under that shiny paintand#44; and items like the urethane front and rear bumpersand#44; D80 deck lid spoilerand#44; and NACA-style hood are in excellent shape. Correct Rally Sport graphics were installedand#44; and the red stripe on the black and silver color scheme makes for an awesome contrast and certainly enough to stop trafficand#44; even today. Youll probably discover that everyone has a story to tell about a similar car from their youthand#44; and thats exactly what cool old cars are all about. Even cooler is the neatly finished interior. Cloth inserts look and feel great on those high-back bucketsand#44; lending a stylish edge that wasnt nearly as over-the-top as the bodyworkand#44; which is a nice contrast. New carpetsand#44; nicely preserved door panelsand#44; and an unmarked dash pad all contribute to the upscale atmosphereand#44; and the steering wheel wears a leather wrapper that makes it easy to grab. The factory gauges are augmented by a tachometer strapped to the steering column and a trio of mini gauges in place of the original radioand#44; which is a neat way to do it. A center console makes it feel purposeful from behind the wheel and we like the no-frills attitude that this car projects. Its all in very good condition; even the back seat looks like new! The trunk offers more proof that this is a clean car without any hidden issuesand#44; because that floor is unmarked. The 350 cubic inch V8 under the hood is brand new with less than 500 miles on it (the break-in oil is still in the crankcase!). The block a slightly later casting thats been bored .030 oversize and augmented with an upgraded camshaftand#44; flat-top pistonsand#44; and a set of HO350 heads to really wake it up. On topand#44; theres a big Holley 4-barrel carburetor on an Edelbrock intakeand#44; and all together it makes this one considerably more formidable than when it was new. The engine bay has a somewhat flashy look with the chrome valve covers and Chevy Orange paintand#44; but its not over done and most folks wont notice the added horsepower until its too late. Power steering and brakes are includedand#44; and while its not detailed for showand#44; the chassis is in great shape and includes a new Flowmaster exhaust systemand#44; TH350 3-speed automatic transmission with a shift kitand#44; and no stories. Cool ZJ7 Rally wheels were original equipment on the RS and wear staggered 225/70/15 front and 235/70/15 white letter radialsand#44; which give it a great look. Go back in time and relive your childhood with this fantastic icon from the 70s. Call today! |
