This 1979 International Harvester Scout II is one of the finest in the country. I purchased it in February 2013 after seeing it as the andlsquo;Find of the Dayandrsquo; on the Hemmings Motor News blog, where it was advertised as being in nearly mint condition and I proceeded to sympathetically restore it from there. The truck looks as it looked in the 1970andrsquo;s and was restored as needed to maintain as much originality as possible, while ensuring every component functioned properly. It was optioned with a 345 cubic Inch V8, T427-heavy duty 4 speed manual transmission, power steering, power brakes, tilt wheel, am radio, optional rear bench seat, deluxe exterior trim pack in Russet plaid, heavy-duty rear step bumper, FA-13 front drive axle with locking hub, 3:54 axles, dana 44s, cigar lighter, chrome wheel covers, rear seat dome light, 19-gallon fuel tank, tinted glass, and H78x15 tires. Recent restoration included quality repaint (Omaha Orange) where necessary, the rest is original paint, new Rallye stripes, restoration of the hardtop included removing it off the vehicle, windows, headliner and felts were removed, stripped, primed, Hushmat added for sound deadening, repainting and reassembled at a cost of over $5K. New roll bar, CB radio, window regulators, new fuel tank, sending unit, lines and gauge restoration. The brakes were completely restored using nickel-copper lines, new cylinders, rotors, calipers, hoses, pads and shoes. The front axle was completely disassembled, cleaned, greased, repacked and reassembled, new exhaust manifold gaskets, power steering rebuild with new lines, a complete tune-up, rebuilt of 4bbl carburetor that was added by previous owner. The undercarriage was resprayed, new front bumper was installed to replace the dinged original; I had the rear bumper removed, straightened, primed and repainted to match the front. The truck is stock height and never lifted or modified, and it still runs a single exhaust; a testament of adult ownership throughout its life. New tires and NOS chrome caps complete the appearance. The interior is largely original and in excellent condition. I replaced the original metal glued-on dash decal with a retro wood grain version as it suited the truck well. There are no rips or tears, the carpet is newer from the previous owner, the door panels are excellent. I have a stack or receipts for endless small items in addition to the $15K in receipts from the restoration, as well as many photos of work done along the way. Everything works, the lights and gauges, dash lights, the interior cabin lights, horn, heat, fan, windshield washers have new copper lines, wipers and AM radio. This is a strong running, well sorted vehicle. The trucks paint is excellent, there are two or three minor paint scratches (no dings) upon visual inspection from a storm a few years ago. I chose to simply apply several layers of wax to the area instead of touch-up. I have some extra parts including a grill, tune-up parts, the original hubcaps, spare tire with the original cover and other assorted items. The truck is registered and inspected here in Long Island, New York and only occasionally driven in nice weather. I have driven the truck only 2,000 miles since purchasing it 4 years ago.
