Details: Trans Ams are red hot right now. So yesand#44; youre far from the only person looking to get your hands on a cool T-top Pontiac. Which means if youre going to get your hands on one for the long termand#44; make sure it has a true pedigree. Thats why we love this 1979 10th Anniversary Edition that is thoroughly original inside and outand#44; and comes with a ton of documentation.

When you want a collector-grade carand#44; you want it to have been owned by collectors. The low mileage (averaging less than 1and#44;400 miles annually) and careful ownership through the years means this anniversary car feels like a true survivor. Its much more than just having the Platinum Silver paint show all signs of being factory original. In factand#44; all the pieces particular to this car seem to be in place. It starts up front with the wide air dam that sets off the aggressive appearance. On the hood is a special version of the screaming hood bird thats exclusive to these cars. Its wider than normaland#44; and it helps set up the charcoal accent color that runs from the shaker hoodand#44; around the doorsand#44; and ends at the pinstripe behind the T-tops. And speaking of the pinstripeand#44; this red and black dual line also runs across the wheel houses to match the bold Trans Am decal on the fenders. Plusand#44; it also provides another color separation line on the bumpers and door mirrors. This was truly a unique package that was expensive to coordinate in the 1970sand#44; and no factory likely would even try to attempt it today. The package is even the debut of the now-iconic turbo-style aluminum wheels. So to recreate all these features is exceptionally expensiveand#44; and to find a car with all these surviving elements is near impossible.

Someone knew this was a special car the moment it rolled out of the showroomand#44; and as a result the silver leather upholstery is in outstanding condition. In factand#44; Pontiac was so eager with this anniversary edition that every surface inside the car is some hue of silver or gray – all of this is exceptionally well-preserved. The only part that is not a precious metal are the bold Trans Am logos stitched into the door panels – another sign of Pontiacs investment in these cars. The driver gets a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheeland#44; and beyond thatand#44; the dash is covered in the T/As hallmark machine-turned aluminum panel. The original gauge pack glows red like an aircraftand#44; and even the factory tach/clock combo works perfectly. Just about every feature available was standard equipment on special editionand#44; including power windowsand#44; power locksand#44; cruise controland#44; electric rear defoggerand#44; and provisions for air conditioning. This one is so originaland#44; you even still have the factory AM/FM/8-track stereo (Smokey and the Bandit soundtrack cartage sold separately.)

The 403 cubic-inch V8 has an authentic appearance right down to the factory shaker hood that everybody remembers so well. The block is still covered in factory-correct Pontiac Blue paintand#44; and it looks like this powerplant has been treated to good regular maintenance. This motor makes great muscle car sounds out of the upgraded Flowmaster dual exhaustand#44; and it moves the car with authority. The Trans Am has a reputation for not only being quickand#44; but also as one of the best all-around handling sports cars of its day. Plusand#44; this one has long-haul comfortand#44; thanks to a GM TH350 three-speed automatic transmission and power steering. Finishing off this driver-friendly package are four-wheel disc brakesand#44; and the proper appearance and grip of Goodyear Eagle GTII tires.

Documentation includes the original window stickerand#44; title historyand#44; owners manualand#44; and original bill of sale that goes through the expensive list of standard equipment on this special edition. Impressiveand#44; right? If you
